Plot Synopsis

In March 1978, the Greater San Diego Sports Association and the San Diego Bowl Game Association selected Holiday Bowl as the name for a college football bowl game that would potentially played later that year in San Diego Stadium, matching the Western Athletic Conference champion with a nationally ranked team. One month later, the NCAA approved two new bowl games, including the Holiday Bowl, which featured BYU and Navy in the inaugural event. Like most bowl games, the 2020 event was canceled because of COVID-19 and the delayed college football season. The Holiday Bowl was scheduled to return in 2021, but that game was canceled just hours before kickoff when UCLA suffered a COVID outbreak and NC State could not find a replacement team for its opponent.
