Plot Synopsis

Host Sherri Shepherd travels across the United States, searching for people whose love for cooking is combined with a profound passion for their faith. These good people share their recipes, open their hearts and welcome Sherri into their food-filled worlds. In each half-hour episode of HOLY & HUNGRY, Sherri seeks out divine dining at four different locations run by people of faith, including: Hush Bistro in Farmingdale, NY, where she dines on the preacher/chef's signature dish, Adam's Rib; Holy Schnitzel, the mecca for fast food inspired kosher fare in Staten Island; Veniero's Pastry, where she makes the Sfingi, a sacred sweet; Manhattan's famous Riverside Church, where she is inspired by the Jesus & Mary Biscuits from Grits to Grace Supper Club; Vonda's Kitchen in Newark, NJ, where she is treated to Vonda's Smothered Turkey Wings; the church of St. Francis Xavier in Manhattan, where she and Father Charles Frederico make his Spaghetti e Vongole for a holy crowd; Basil, a Kosher food and wine bar in Brooklyn; Cafe Pierrot in Sparta, NJ, where she meets a family committed to faith and serving the community their famous croissants; Craven Dawgs and Ting in Fairfield, CT, where she samples Darlene Banks' Jamaican Jerk Burgers; and many more locations where she finds religion while cooking with the faithful. More than 13 months before the official series premiere, Cooking Channel debuted the pilot episode of HOLY & HUNGRY on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 10:30pm ET/7:30pm PT with a different host: MC Hammer.

Cooking Channel premiered the season finale of HOLY & HUNGRY on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 10pm ET/7pm PT. In the season ender, "Pious Pizza and Honest Chops," Sherri visits a former friar who makes a miraculous Pizza Margherita at S. Egidio's in Ridgewood, NJ; In Brooklyn, Ethiopian restaurant Ghenet serves up their communal specialty chicken, Doro Wettt; In Crown Heights, NY, Sherri tastes The Gospel of Caribbean food at The Food Sermon Kitchen; and on the Lower East Side in New York, Islamic butcher Honest Chops has Halal meat for the masses.
