Plot Synopsis

Based on the web series of the same name, HOT DATE is a half-hour sketch comedy series that spotlights modern-day relationships and dating dilemmas. The series stars real-life married couple Emily Axford and Brian K. Murphy, who play multiple couples -- and even some of the supporting characters -- as they lampoon social mores of dating, sex and marriage while touching on hot topics such as the difficulty of making friends in adulthood, the pitfalls of dating for money, and spicing up sex lives. During the series, Axford and Murphy portray: Beth and Seth, suburbanites trying to resuscitate their wild sides...without wrinkling their Ralph Lauren chinos; Loretta, a single mom whose teenage son, Kyle, reluctantly introduces her to the world of dating apps; Brad, a broken hearted Renaissance Faire enthusiast who is oft-mistaken for a cool hipster; Bridgette, a nightmare millennial who doesn't do anything without snapping photos to prove how amazing her life is; and of course, Emily and Murph, sneaky and self-serving dirt bags who are perfect for each other...but toxic for everyone else. Guest stars include: executive producer Will Arnett (in the "For Real, Where Have All My Friends Gone" episode), Kevin Pollak ("Double Standards"), Ben Schwartz ("Gold Diggers"), and Mena Suvari ("Relationship Goals").

On Friday, September 20, 2019 from 10-11pm ET/PT, Pop premiered the second season of HOT DATE, debuting back-to-back new episodes. The season opens with "Apartment Hunting" (10pm), as Murph and Emily have been evicted from their apartment and have to compete with another couple to apply for a new one. Bridget is moving in with her new tech millionaire boyfriend who doesn't approve of her truck full of "baggage." Across town, it's splitsville for young couple Hannah and Brennan, who both want to keep their awesome apartment. Guest stars: Thomas Lennon as Lex Duplex, Ryan Joseph Broussard as Jon, Billy Slaughter as Grant, and Carol Sutton as Angela. Then, in the night's second episode, "Family" (10:30pm), Murph and Emily set out to prove to Murph's mom that they can plan their own wedding, but the cute barn they book off Pinterest turns out to be a bug-infested gator-haven. Meanwhile, Emily receives some digitized tapes from her Mee Maw with some inappropriately old-fashioned marriage advice. Drama erupts at a local restaurant when antiquated guy Steve asks Ashley to marry him, but reveals he asked for her dad's seal of approval. Guest stars: Matthew Berry as Dad, Laura Cayoutte as Linda, and Robert William Mello as Francois. Additional guest stars in Season 2 include: Jenna Kanell, Margaret Cho, Geraldine Singer, Randall Park, Amanda Troop, Karen Gonzales, Kelly Murtagh, and Laura Cayoutte.

"The Wedding" (10:30pm): After sustaining some hefty injuries in a scooter incident, Emily and Murph devise a plan to get married immediately so Em can be covered under Murph's insurance. Bridget goes into labor and as her contractions start to build, she realizes her baby will be born a Sagittaris, unless...she can hold it in until midnight to make it a Capricorn!
