Plot Synopsis

Created by Shelley Eriksen and show-runner Dennis Heaton, THE IMPERFECTS is a sci-fi drama series that follows three twenty somethings -- Abbi, Juan and Tilda -- who were turned into monsters by evil scientists against their will. Tilda is the driven lead singer of a punk band, who sees her dreams shatter after she develops super-hearing and a destructive vocal power, giving her abilities similar to a Banshee. Abbi is an ambitious geneticist, whose eagerness to please is tested when her overpowering pheromones give her a Succubus-like control over anyone around her. And Juan is an aspiring graphic novelist, who is more comfortable exploring weird fantasy worlds in his work than he is experiencing them first-hand after transforming into a beast, where he identifies as a Chupacabra. Now, the trio band together in hopes of reversing the side-effects, and they are on the hunt for Dr. Alex Sarkov, the mad-man responsible for their conditions, who is a former child prodigy refusing to let anyone -- or anything -- interfere with his goal to rewrite the human genome and usher in the next stage of human evolution. Along the way, Abbi, Juan and Tilda are also being chased by a government agency (with tanks), while dealing with college applications, teenage romance, random monster mutations, and all of sorts of coming-of-age related dramas. Plus, they encounter the vengeance-minded Isabel Finch, a formidable foe, who has her own reasons for finding Sarkov -- but if she finds him before they do, they'll never be able to shed their monstrous identities. The trio are joined by Dr. Sydney Burke, a scientist who assists them in their quest, and they find Hannah, another test subject of Sarkov and Burke's experimental gene treatment, who finds her allegiance torn between Abbi, Juan & Tilda and Finch. The entire 10-episode first season of THE IMPERFECTS dropped on Thursday, September 8, 2022 on Netflix.
