Plot Synopsis

A departure from the typical law office setting, IN CONTEMPT is an hour procedural set in the fast paced world of a legal aid office in New York City. Fighting for clients who can't afford to choose their lawyers, the show follows Gwen Sullivan, an opinionated and wildly outspoken attorney whose passion for her job and clients make her arguably the most talented Public Defender in her district. Along with the complicated cases she tackles in a hurried environment, she must also manage the various distractions at the office, including Charlie, the undeserving, but still newly appointed Supervisor, who also happens to be her ex; Earl, her stern and hard to please former judge father; Vanessa, an uptight rookie lawyer from a privileged background; and her former law professor and the "one who got away," Bennett. In the series opener, "Welcome to Hell," Gwen defends a client accused of attempted rape. Meanwhile, Charlie supervises rookie attorney Vanessa. Tracy's frustration grows with Judge Dodson, her married lover, when he denies bail to her client.

On Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, BET premiered "BLM (Part 2)," the season finale of IN CONTEMPT. Gwen's defense of a young Black man who killed a police officer in self-defense continues, and she is forced to come up with an unorthodox theory in order to win.
