Plot Synopsis

INSIDE COMBAT RESCUE follows Pararescue Jumpers (PJs) who work in Afghanistan to save Americans, coalition forces, Afghan allies and even local Afghan families caught in the crossfire. For the first time in history, the United States Air Force allowed cameras to follow these highly skilled airmen, who also have advanced medical training, as they complete rescue missions in warzones. Using helmet-mounted cameras and more than 40 cameras inside and outside of the Air Force's HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters, this series followed the 38th Rescue Squadron on more than 20 missions -- from the moment real-time intel of the wounded streams into the operations center, and the PJs scramble to launch within minutes of the call; as they take on enemy fire and land in areas with heavy insurgent activity; while they rush to stop an amputee from bleeding out during air transport and then download the surgical staff at the nearest hospital; to the debrief back at base. Since the PJs must be ready to respond at a moment's notice to save people within the "golden hour," the critical first hour that's often the difference between life and death, these PJs pass time between missions at the base by pulling pranks, hanging out together, and waiting for word from home. Plus, the squadron must deal with frustration, as they can't always land in areas littered by mines, when they have their radio communications blocked, and as they avoid improvised explosive devices.

INSIDE COMBAT RESCUE returned with new episodes on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on Nat Geo. In this new episode, "Into the Hot Zone," the PJs begin a four-month deployment in Afghanistan and fly into hot landing zones with busted weapons in order to rescue wounded soldiers. PJ Barry's first mission is to rescue an ANA soldier with a torso wound and a broken arm. Later, one of their machine guns breaks down in the middle of recovering two injured soldiers in a hot landing zone.
