Plot Synopsis

Survivalist Bear Grylls gives 14 American men the ultimate challenge by isolating them on a deserted island with only the clothes on their backs and minimal survival tools, committed to filming every moment themselves. There are no prizes, no eliminations, no winner, and no producers to motivate them men as they must hunt and gather food, erect shelter and try to survive using only their strength and know-how. The 14 survivalists are: Rob Brothers, a 43-year-old stay-at-home dad from Bala Cynwyd, PA, who is feeling disillusioned and has lost contact with many of his male friends after leaving his IT job two years ago; Davion Carrillo, a 39-year-old firefighter from Indianapolis, who quit his corporate job for the adrenaline rush of fighting fires -- but found that still wasn't enough; Taylor Cole, a 25-year-old radio producer from Los Angeles, who was in a near fatal motorcycle accident two years ago, suffering broken legs and had emergency brain surgery; Matthew Getz, a 33-year-old producer/shooter from Los Angeles, who's treating the island as form of rehab because his phone has taken over his life; Benji Lanpher, a 31-year-old thrill seeker from Los Angeles, who is saving money so that he may one day buy his own island, a personal Neverland where he can escape the adult world; Earnest Marshall, a 27-year-old women's shoe salesman from Dallas, who saw combat as an Army soldier in the Iraqi War and is now looking to reclaim the fighting spirit he once had; Dakota Mortensen, a 21-year-old bird farmer from Caldwell, Idaho, who lives with his parents and works on his dad's bird farm after losing his college basketball scholarship; Jim Murray, a 64-year-old retired police chief from Murphy, NC, who has grown restless in retirement and comes to the island with a 'failure isn't an option' mentality; Jud Nichols, a 28-year-old criminal defense attorney from Minneapolis, who realized he had made a mistake after following his father's footsteps to become a lawyer; Dr. Buck Parker, a 41-year-old trauma surgeon from Orlando, FL, who is coming to the island to not only act as the cast medical specialist, but more importantly to prove to his father and brother that he can compete with their love of hunting and the outdoors; Michael Rossini, a 50-year-old engineer from Randolph, MA, who hopes to take the final step in accepting his wife's passing by doing something for himself after raising two young daughters on his own -- usually at the expense of his own personal growth; Graham Sheldon, a 28-year-old cameraman from Encintas, CA, who has traveled to the ends of the Earth to produce documentaries on embargo-era Cuba, the Iditarod in Alaska, and even the exclusion zone in Chernobyl, Ukraine; Rick Smith, a 34-year-old embedded crewmember from Bozeman, MT, who documents those who know what it takes to stay alive in the wild, but relies on their knowledge to keep him fed and safe; and Trey Williams, a 31-year-old digital marketing manager from Kansas City, MO, who is trying to mend his relationship with his boyfriend and hopes to find the answer that could alter his life.
