Plot Synopsis

Based on the 2019 feature film of the same name, THE JOURNALIST is a drama series that centers on Anna Matsuda, a Toto Newspaper reporter known as the "maverick of news media," who strives to expose issues in modern Japanese society. Matsuda doggedly pursues the truth about a government corruption scandal even as powerful enemies seek to neutralize her reporting. The story opens with Matsuda's editor pulling her off a dead-end corruption investigation to chase down malfeasance involving Eishin Academy. That's when the cover-up begins. Suzuki and his colleagues continue "revising" documents as Matsuda contacts potential sources and Murakami starts surveilling a list of targets. On Thursday, January 13, 2022, Netflix released the entire six-episode first season of THE JOURNALIST.
