Plot Synopsis

From Kenny Ortega, JULIE & THE PHANTOMS follows high schooler Julie, who lost her passion for music after her mom, Rose, died a year earlier. But when the ghosts of the '90s band Sunset Curve suddenly appear in her mom's old music studio, Julie feels her own inner spirit beginning to reawaken, and she's inspired to start singing and writing songs again. The phantoms of Sunset Curve, who died in 1995, include: Luke, who is vulnerable, sensitive and romantic beneath his tough exterior; the always positive and carefree Reggie, who is eager to leave his musical mark on the world; and Alex, the emotional glue of the band, who feels a romantic spark after meeting Willie, a California ghost skateboarding the streets of Hollywood, who teaches the boys about the spirit world. As their friendship with Julie grows, the boys convince her to create a new band together: Julie and the Phantoms. At first, Julie's best friend Flynn -- who has a flair for poetry, rap and the spoken workd -- doesn't believe Julie is actually seeing ghosts, but eventually comes around. Plus, sparks fly between Luke and Julie, while the ghostly crew had to deal with Caleb Covington, a charming but villainous ghost from 1940s Hollywood, who is the most powerful spirit in Tinseltown. Based on the original Brazilian series JULIE E OS FANTASMAS, this series debuted on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released the nine-episode first season. More complete character descriptions:

- Julie (played by Madison Reyes): Passionate frontwoman and lead keyboardist who brings the band to life. A fifteen-year-old high schooler who doesn't always feel like she fits in. Strong, smart, energetic, opinionated and above all, a good person. She loves music and is a naturally talented singer and songwriter. But losing her mom, Rose, a year ago has affected her deeply. She's lost her passion for a lot of things, including music. The Phantoms remind her how much she loves music, and help to revive her spark.

- Luke (played by Charlie Gillespie): Ghost, guitarist. A true rockstar. Confident and likable, but he has secrets and is hiding a painful past. Beneath his tough exterior, he's vulnerable, sensitive, romantic. Driven and goal-oriented, he'll do whatever it takes to succeed. He and Julie have electric chemistry both on and off stage.

- Reggie (played by Jeremy Shada): Ghost, bass player. Easy-going with a huge heart. All-around good guy who loves a prank. Always positive and carefree. Eager to leave his musical mark on the world.

- Alex (played by Owen Joyner): Ghost, drummer. The emotional glue that holds the band together. Talented, neurotic, and self-deprecating. When he meets Willie, romantic sparks instantly fly.

- Flynn (played by Jadah Marie): Julie's best friend. Sharp-tongued, sarcastic, loyal, honest. Wise beyond her years. Has a flair for poetry, rap, and the spoken word. Worries for her BFF and doesn't believe she's actually seeing ghosts at first, but she eventually comes around. She always supports Julie, even her craziest ideas -- like forming a band with three ghosts.

- Nick (played by Sacha Carlson): Julie's crush. Cute, popular, charismatic. Solid guitar player and dancer. Dating Carrie.

- Carrie (played by Savannah May): Julie's rival, romantically and musically. Lead singer of her own musical girl group, Dirty Candi. Dating Nick. Feels threatened by Julie and will do anything to sabotage her.

- Ray (played by Carlos Ponce): Julie's dad. A successful photographer who's provided a beautiful home and life for his family. Loving, doting, emotionally present even though he's grieving the loss of his wife. His children are always his first priority.

- Carlos (played by Sonny Bustamante): Julie's little brother. Curious and nosy. Looks up to Julie even though he annoys her sometimes. Sweet and innocent.

- Aunt Victoria (played by Alison Araya): Julie's aunt. Self-appointed guardian of the family, trying to help out when she can since her sister's death. Her intentions are good but sometimes tiring.

- Caleb Covington (played by Cheyenne Jackson): Charming but villainous ghost from 1940s Hollywood who was a famous showman before his untimely death. The most powerful ghost in Tinseltown, but not to be trusted.

- Willie (played by Booboo Stewart): Cool California ghost who's been skateboarding the streets of Hollywood for decades. Teaches the boys about the spirit world and grows especially close to Alex.
