Plot Synopsis

Using re-enactments and first-person interviews with witnesses and experts, #KILLERPOST is a one-hour series that profiles shocking cases where social media activity has had dangerous and deadly consequences -- situations where a post, a poke or even a tweet led to a violent and even deadly result. Although the crimes differ in nature, they all share a common theme that social media posts acted as the catalysts for deadly repercussions. From a seemingly innocent online connection that ends in homicide to an online feud between best friends that leads to a public physical altercation, this series reveals how the boundaries between the real and online world are breaking down with shocking results and sometimes fatal outcomes. Each 60-minute episode highlights a single story, including the series premiere, which chronicles the tale of a case in which good intentions turned into mixed signals, causing former friends Jenelle Potter and Billie Jean Hayworth to unfriend each other on Facebook and eventually resulting in the deaths of Hayworth and Billy Payne, facilitated by Potter after she created a false online identity of a CIA agent to convince her father, Marvin Potter, to shoot Hayworth and Payne.
