Plot Synopsis

When Arlo Barth shows up on her doorstep 26 years after she gave him up for adoption, Tony-winning diva Madison Banks reluctantly invites him to move into her Park Avenue condo, where this new makeshift family adapts to their new lives together. After a lifetime of unbridled hedonism, drinking, and sleeping her way up and down Broadway, Maddie is shocked when Arlo, a donut maker from Jersey, suddenly appears on her doorstep, hoping to connect after his adoptive parents died. Unsure how to fit him into her life, she initially pushes him away, almost denying her son a second time, until realizing he may be just what she needs. With the help of her long-suffering BFF/assistant Thelma and her eccentric chauffeur Frank, Maddie realizes that Arlo is a diamond in the rough and invites him to live with her. As Thelma and Frank show Arlo the ropes of Maddie's uninhibited, unapologetic and unhinged life, he wonders if they'll ever have a real relationship, while Maddie struggles being a mom and finds herself competing with the saintly specter of Arlo's adoptive mom. But Maddie is shocked to find that perhaps she has motherly instincts after all, finally making a connection with Arlo at his birthday party, while she learns that her family's newest member isn't the only gem that could use a little polish.
