Plot Synopsis

Hosted by seven-time New York Times best-selling author Kitty Kelley, THE KITTY KELLEY FILES is a one-hour documentary series in which Kelley unearths the true tales of some of America's most beloved celebrities including Julia Roberts, Princess Diana, George Clooney, Drew Barrymore and Frank Sinatra and tell their stories through the lens of the sensational events that they either triumphed over or were destroyed by. Kelley presents each story in hour-long episodes with her signature frankness and charm while she digs behind the headlines to reveal how incredible details in each story came to light.

The series opener focuses on Drew Barrymore, who was born into Hollywood royalty, a descendant of the Barrymore family of well-known American stage and cinema actors. She is an actress, author, director, model and producer. After her breakout role in Steven Spielberg's E.T., Drew's childhood took a dark turn. She was smoking cigarettes at the age of nine, drinking alcohol by the time she was 11, smoking marijuana at the age of 12, and snorting cocaine at the age of 13. Her nightlife and constant partying became a popular subject with the media and she was in rehab by the age of 14, after which she spent 18 months in an institution for the mentally ill. In her late teens, her rebelliousness played itself out on screen and in print and Drew forged an image as a manipulative teenage seductress. At the age of 17, she posed nude for the cover of the July issue of "Interview" magazine with her then-fiance, actor Jamie Walters, as well as appearing nude in pictures inside the issue. Her love life has also been tumultuous. Drew married her first husband at the age of 19 on March 20, 1994, but filed for divorce less than two months later after an acrimonious breakup. In 2001, after only a year of marriage, Drew and her second husband Tom Green also divorced. She had a five-year relationship with The Stroke's drummer Fabrizio Moretti, after which she had an on-again-off-again relationship with actor Justin Long. In early 2011, Drew began dating art consultant Will Kopelman, and in 2012 they were wed. Barrymore and Kopelman have two daughters, but in 2016 the couple announced their intent to divorce.
