Plot Synopsis

LAST CHANCE DRIVING SCHOOL follows Sven Ruppaner and the crew at his family-run driving school in Queens, as they teach students how to drive, hoping to transform disoriented, despondent and downright dangerous student drivers into safe and sensible drivers. To provide real-time responses and interactions on the unpredictable and accident-prone streets of New York, each learning-driver car was outfitted with multiple cameras and was followed by a crew vehicle. This series documents the trials and tribulations of these three instructors: Sven Ruppaner, the owner, who is a veteran in the driving school field with over 25 years of experience and has a no-nonsense approach and zeal for perfection that can help get anyone on the road; Pete Harrison, known as 'The Legend,' who has been teaching for over 40 years, making him a favorite amongst the students who respond to his grumpy demeanor and witty remarks; and Carlos Hurtado, who says that "Almost running into an oil tanker" was his closest call while driving with a student since his pupil kept pressing the gas pedal. Back at the office, these drivers are supported by: Maria Ruppaner, one of Sven's students 15 years ago but now his wife, who is the 'boss lady' that helps keep the family business running smoothly; and Francis Kompouras, Maria's sister and the school's Student Coordinator, who is responsible for booking student appointments and keeping in constant communication with prospective drivers. Each 30-minute episode highlights the near-misses and close-calls of three or four driving students, including: fashionista Irene, who spends her time on her cell phone and on the sidewalk; sexy legal-eagle Teresa, who gets Sven hot under the collar; a wannabe rocker, Johnny, who scares Pete to death when he nearly takes out a cab on the highway; housewife Jillian, who comes down with a serious case of road rage -- during parking practice; stay-at-home mom Jasminem, who takes a highway driving lesson with Sven with disastrous consequences; first-time driver Sharron, who is one of the worst drivers Pete has seen in his 37 years on the road; male stripper Naquan, who'd rather keep his eyes on the ladies than the road; home health-care assistant Maria, who is more comfortable on the shoulder than in her lane; barman Erik, who wants to get his school bus license; criminal justice student Diane, who is taking driving classes to avoid going to jail for illegally driving; Sven's wife, Maria, who wants to learn to drive stick shift; Sabina, the school's craziest and most dangerous driver ever, who is given one last chance from the school to get her license; voiceover artist Shelley, who is taking classes to perfect her parking; a troublesome student, who Sven throws out of the school car; fiesty Brazilian firecracker Carla, who gets Pete worked up with her road rage in Manhattan; and writer Erika, who has a unique eye condition, which makes it hard for her to tell distances from other vehicles.
