Plot Synopsis

LEGEND HUNTER is a one-hour reality series that follows wildlife biologist and explorer Pat Spain, as he searches various regions of America for the truth behind lost legends, while using new technology to uncover new information. As the great nephew of Charles Fort (aka the "Prophet of the Unexplained"), Spain carries on the family legacy by questioning mainstream science and investigating things that science often writes off as impossible. Now, with LEGEND HUNTER, he considers unusual explanations of bizarre phenomena to crack open some of history's most mind-boggling mysteries and crimes.

On Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11pm ET/PT, Travel Channel premiered the pilot of LEGEND HUNTER, but the cable channel had no other episodes at that time. In the pilot, "Lost Desert Ship," is on a quest in the Southern California desert to find out if the legend of a lost Spanish galleon loaded with treasure is true. Using new technology, he uncovers evidence that may prove this fable to be a historic fact.

Twenty months later, LEGEND HUNTER returned for its official series premiere on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on Travel Channel. In the series opener, "Lizzie Borden, Innocent?," Spain reopens the infamous Lizzie Borden murder case to find out who really took an ax to her father and stepmother. He gains exclusive access to Lizzie's home, belongings and previously sealed family documents. Spain starts his investigation from scratch, as though the crime happened yesterday. Then, using psychographic profiling and statistical theory, among other tools, he re-examines the original suspects. Spain reenacts what they supposedly were doing at the time of the murders, their 'alibis' and whether these accounts are actually plausible. Through his relentless digging, Spain unearths a surprising new suspect never before connected to the case!

In subsequent episodes, Spain tackles these mysteries: the Beast of Bray Road, Jack the Ripper, the Irish Crown Jewels stolen from Dublin Castle in 1907, and more.
