Plot Synopsis

LIFE ON THE LINE documents workers and their machines as they manufacture huge products and process outrageous orders -- all on extremely tight deadlines and in the face of improbable odds of success. Each 30-minute episode highlights a single location, including: a factory in Alaska that must process 90,000 pounds of halibut and drive 300 miles to the airport to catch the last flight to the mainland; a Scottish factory where workers are trying to build six monster dump trucks as machines break down and a 15-day deadline for the first truck; and Sheffield Forgemasters which must make 16 giant oil rig anchors for a rig in the Gulf of Mexico before it gets blown away by a hurricane.
