Plot Synopsis

Based on Disney's THE LION KING, THE LION GUARD is a half-hour animated series that opens with a one-hour television movie, THE LION GUARD: RETURN OF THE ROAR, which debuted on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 7pm ET/PT on Disney. The series premiere on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 9:30am ET/PT, as Disney Channel premiered back-to-back new episodes. Set in the African savanna, THE LION GUARD: RETURN OF THE ROAR introduces Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, who is destined to become leader of the Lion Guard, a team of animals comprised of the Pride Lands' fiercest, bravest, fastest, strongest and keenest of sight. As Kion looks to assemble the members of the new Lion Guard, he does not call upon a group of lions to serve with him as tradition dictates, but instead chooses some of his friends whom he believes best exemplify these heroic qualities: Bunga, a fearless honey badger; Fuli, a confident cheetah; Beshte, a friendly and good-spirited hippo; and Ono, an intellectual egret. Many of the characters from THE LION KING appear in the movie, including Mufasa and Pumbaa, voiced by James Earl Jones and Ernie Sabella respectively, who reprise their original roles. Plus, Jason Marsden, Andy Dick and Lacey Chabert reprise their roles as Kovu, Nuka and Vitani, respectively, from THE LION KING II: SIMBA'S PRIDE in an upcoming episode. The Education and Science experts at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park serve as consultants, advising on the characteristics, behaviors and habitats of the African animal species featured and inspiring original stories based on their first-hand experiences. Author and Swahili expert Sarah Mirza is the language and cultural advisor.
Season 2 of THE LION GUARD premiered on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 8-9am ET/PT, as Disney Channel premiered back-to-back new episodes:

"Babysitter Bunga" (8am): The rest of the Lion Guard is stunned when Bunga becomes the go-to babysitter for all the Pride Lands' parents. Ana Gasteyer and Phil LaMarr recur as jackals, Reirei and Goigoi, respectively.

"The Savannah Summit" (8:30am): While Simba gathers the animal leaders for a Savannah Summit, the Lion Guard learns of a plot against the giraffe's leader that they're sure Makuu is behind. Blair Underwood and Lynette Dupree recur as Makuu the crocodile and Ma Tembo the elephant, respectively. Michael Dorn guest stars as Bupu the antelope.
