Plot Synopsis

Host Professor Arne Kislenko -- an Associate Professor of History from Ryerson University in Ontario, Canada -- investigates what it was like to live two thousand years ago by taking a look at careers, health care, and law enforcement. The three episodes include: "Making a Living," where Kislenko gets his hand dirty doing the jobs of ancient carpenters, shepherds and camel-riding merchants while also seeing how taxes were collected and the Holy Temple was operated; "Healing the Sick," which looks at the many sides of ancient health care -- using leaches to extract bad blood and getting covered in mud to treat a muscular condition; and "Crime and Punishment," highlighting the laws and how they were enforced by everyone from the taxman to the flogger.
