Plot Synopsis

MACGYVER, a reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus 'Mac' MacGyver, who creates a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe is maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton; Patricia Thornton, ex-field agent turned director of operations; and Riley Davis, an unpredictable computer hacker with a chip on her shoulder. At home, MacGyver is entertained by his ambitious roommate, Wilt Bozer. Under the aegis of the Department of External Services (DXS), MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip. In the season opener, "The Rising," Mac and Jack join forces to recover a missing bioweapon that has the ability to destroy hundreds of thousands of people with one single drop.

The sophomore season of MACGYVER premiered on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "DIY or DIE," using a cell phone and soccer ball, MacGyver and the team search for a Navy SEAL who is believed to be alive in captivity in the Middle East.

Season 3 of MACGYVER premiered on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "Improvise," it's three months after he quit the Phoenix Foundation and moved to Nigeria, and Mac puts aside his differences with his father and returns when he hears Jack is the target of a murderous dictator he double-crossed.

MACGYVER returned for its fourth season on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. Henry Ian Cusick joins the cast as Oxford-educated Russ Taylor, an Ex-MI6 Agent-turned-private military contractor, who shakes things up by challenging the way MacGyver and the team are used to doing things. In the season opener, "Fire + Ashes + Legacy = Phoenix," Ex-MI6 agent Russ Taylor recruits former Phoenix Foundation members Mac, Riley, Bozer, Matty and Desi to hunt down a bioweapon that's planned to be used by a mysterious organization for a devastating attack on a major U.S. city.

The fifth season of MACGYVER premiered on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "Resort + Desi + Riley + Window Cleaner + Witness," Mac and the team infiltrate a glamorous hotel used as an international hideout for criminals to find a woman with vital information on Codex. However, their target has a new secret identity, including a completely new face. After a three-week break, MACGYVER returned with new episodes on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. In the winter premiere, "Banh Bao + Sterno + Drill + Burner + Mason," Mac's meeting with Desi's parents goes sideways when her brother finds himself in trouble and desperately needs their help. Also, Russ and Matty must ask an old nemesis for assistance when their new recruitment candidate is kidnapped.
