Plot Synopsis

In this spinoff of THE CLOSER, the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department's Major Crimes division are still reeling from the departure of Brenda Leigh Johnson and the realization that Captain Raydor is now in charge. Unlike their previous chief, Raydor is determined to lead the department with a more team-oriented approach, sharing the credit with the people with whom she works. Raydor's hardest job, however, will be gaining the full trust and confidence of her detectives, who aren't quick to forget her long history of internal investigations targeting them and their previous boss. While THE CLOSER focused on Brenda's uncanny ability to secure airtight confessions from suspects, MAJOR CRIMES explores how the police and prosecutors work together to build a solid case that will result in a suspect confessing, signing a plea agreement, or being found guilty in a court of law. The squad includes: Lt. Provenza, the squad's resident old-timer, who has a difficult time taking orders from someone he doesn't think knows as much about the job as he does; Lt. Andy Flynn, a wisecrack keeping the squad's spirits lifted, who is passionate about his job but sometimes lets his friendship with Provenza get in the way; Lt. Mike Tao, the go-to guy for anything technology related, who thrives on using his expertise to crack cases but tends to go overboard on details when explaining things; Det. Julio Sanchez, knowledgeable about the complexities of gang warfare in Los Angeles, who can be a bit intimidating to a suspect -- especially when his emotions run high; Buzz Watson, the electronics room technician, who is the videographer of all crime-scene documentation for the Major Crimes Division; and Det. Amy Sykes, an ambitious undercover police detective and military veteran in Afghanistan, who struggles to prove herself and be taken seriously as the squad's newest member. Season 2 premiered on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT on TNT, with the debut episode introducing new character Deputy D.A. Emma Rios, who challenges Raydor's intentions as Rusty's guardian. on TNT. In Season 3, the squad investigates these cases: the disappearance of two kids and their father; the death of the defendant in a rape trial; a complex case involving arranged marriages and diplomatic immunity; and one of Sanchez's old cases that resurfaces when it turns out a man he put away for manslaughter might be innocent. And Provenza and Flynn will be drawn to a ritzy estate to investigate the murder of a dog, but they're going to have to solve the case with unwanted help from an amateur sleuth they've encountered before. On the home front, Sharon Raydor will try to help Rusty put his turbulent past behind him, a goal made far more difficult when a member of the young man's biological family returns, threatening Rusty's hard-won stability. On Monday, August 11 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, TNT aired the Season 3 summer finale of MAJOR CRIMES. In the mid-season finale, the LAPD finds itself in a precarious situation during an investigation into the disappearances of a string of young girls from a popular nightclub, leading to a turf battle between The Major Crimes division and the Special Operations Bureau. Then in the second hour (10pm), the Major Crimes division is in overdrive working to stop a serial killer who has been targeting female sex workers. Andy Flynn on her way to Mexico. Meanwhile, Rusty pursues a taboo subject for his next story on "Identity." On Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT, TNT premiered the 13-episode fifth season of MAJOR CRIMES, as the squad sets out to solve some of the worst and most challenging homicides in America's second largest city. Whether it involves hunting for a missing teenage girl who vanished while helping the homeless, hunting down the killer of a potentially dirty cop, following up on an ISIS-related beheading in an isolated corner of Los Angeles, or putting back together a body burnt to cinders in an Elysian Park grilling pit, the investigators strive to return balance to the scales of justice. The 13-episode sixth and final season of MAJOR CRIMES premieres Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on TNT. In Season 6 the force faces its three most challenging cases, struggling to solve mysteries mired in complex political conflicts having little to do with identifying and arresting murderers. As Cmdr. Sharon Raydor grows accustomed to her new boss, Assistant Chief Leo Mason, the detectives find themselves questioning their faith in the rapidly changing priorities of the justice system and their ability to reason through difficult changes in their personal relationships. Finally, they must accept the necessity of risk, in all its different guises, as they prepare to face the inexplicable but increasingly undeniable return of Phillip Stroh (guest star Billy Burke). This year, the series takes a serialized turn as the squad struggles to solve mysteries and murders surrounded by complex political conflicts, attempting to sidestep controversial issues as they track down three lethal murderers. The season opens with the first part of a four-episode story. In "Sanctuary City (Part 1)," when three fifteen-year-old boys vanish from a Catholic school field trip, new Asst. Chief Mason orders Major Crimes to treat their disappearance as a critical missing. Meanwhile, Sharon receives more evidence that Phillip Stroh may be returning to Los Angeles.
