Plot Synopsis
Narrated by Martin Sheen, MAJOR LEAGUE LEGENDS is a one-hour documentary series that profiles four iconic former Major League Baseball (MLB) players. Each 60-minute episode features a different player who transcended the National Pastime and left a legacy as a true American icon, including: Hank Aaron, who surmounted racism in the Deep South and became baseball's home run king; Babe Ruth, who emerged from a troubled youth to become America's first superstar celebrity; Lou Gehrig, the embodiment of integrity who achieved immortality for his bravery in facing a terrible disease that now bears his name; and Ted Williams, who aspired to be the greatest hitter ever and inspired generations with his quest for perfection.

On Monday, March 21, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT, Smithsonian premiered the season finale of MAJOR LEAGUE LEGENDS, showing the episode about Ted Williams. Williams met the challenge of using a thin bat to hit a small ball better than any other professional baseball player. He's a member of the 500 Home Run Club and the last player to hit .400 in a single season, but numbers only tell so much about the man who wore the Red Sox uniform. Discover the truth behind the legend, revealed through rare footage and interviews from the MLB archives with baseball experts and the late Splendid Splinter himself.
