Plot Synopsis

Home cooks from all over Canada compete in elimination culinary challenges, as they vie for the $100,000 cash prize and the MasterChef Canada trophy. The trio of judges -- restaurateurs Michael Bonacini, Claudio Aprile, and Alvin Leung -- take these amateurs on a journey from home cook to haute cuisine, while testing and refining their palates, food knowledge, passion and culinary skills. From thousands of applicants across Canada, the top 50 home cooks begin their quest by presenting their signature dish, but only those with the most impressive dishes will be given a coveted MasterChef apron by the three judges. Once the aprons are handed out, the home cooks enter their first challenge, a Stress Test, where they must prepare a stunning chicken dish with only one pan and one burner. After a round of tasting, the judges choose the home cooks who have earned a place in the Masterchef Canada kitchen. The remaining contestants enter the Masterchef Canada kitchen, where they face a combination Mystery Box Challenges and team challenges. Each one-hour episode ends with an Elimination Challenge, sending home at least one of the cheftestants. The judges are: Bonacini, co-founder of the Oliver and Bonacini restaurants, which includes Canoe and the Auberge du Pommier; Aprile, owner of the Orderfire restaurant group, which includes the Origin restaurants in Toronto; and Leung, a Michelin-starred chef, known for the style of cooking he calls X-treme Chinese. Cooking Channel aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 8pm ET/5pm PT, showing back-to-back episodes. On Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 8-10pm ET/5-7pm PT, Cooking Channel aired the U.S. premiere of Season 2 of MASTERCHEF CANADA. In the season opener (8pm ET), "Fit to Be Tied," each home cook presents their signature dish for tasting by renowned judges Claudio Aprile, Michael Bonacini and Alvin Leung. Only those with the most impressive plates earn a coveted white MasterChef Canada apron and move forward in the competition. Then, in the night's second episode (9pm ET), "Patriotic Pantry," the remaining home cooks face their first challenge: creating a stunning dish using an array of Canadian-inspired red and white ingredients. After a dramatic round of tastings, only the most talented home cooks move forward. Cooking Channel broadcast the U.S. premiere of MASTERCHEF CANADA's 15-episode third season on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 8-10pm ET/5-7pm PT, as the cable channel debuted back-to-back new episodes. In the Season 3 premiere (8pm ET/5pm PT), 40 gifted home cooks from across the country audition for Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile with their signature dish. With the home cooks requiring a 'yes' from each judge to receive an apron this season, it's harder than ever for finalists to make it into the coveted Top 14. Those who get a 'no' from each judge will be sent home, while those who earn at least one 'yes' will have a second chance, and the opportunity to cook again for a White Apron and a place in the coveted Top 14. Then, in the night's second episode (9pm ET/6pm PT), the 18 home cooks who earned a second chance at the auditions face two grueling culinary challenges that will either send them home or propel them into the Top 14. Cooking Channel broadcast the U.S. premiere of MASTERCHEF CANADA's fourth season on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 8-10pm ET/5-7pm PT, as the cable channel debuted back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener (8pm ET/5pm PT), "Special Delivery," 24 of the country's best home cooks compete to earn a MasterChef Canada apron and their spot in the Top 12. Then, in the night's second episode (9pm ET/6pm PT), "Home on the Range," the top 12 home cooks face their first mystery box challenge, which includes a treasured and meaningful kitchen item to provide them with inspiration.
