Plot Synopsis
Based on the real-life story of the grandmother of series star Ruth Wilson, MRS. WILSON is a three-part drama series the centers on Alison Wilson, who embarks on a mission to discover who her husband, Alec, really was after she returns home to find him dead. Blinded by grief, Alison is bewildered when a woman unexpectedly arrives at the door, claiming to be Alec's "real wife" Gladys. By dissecting their wartime 1940s romance whilst working for the secret service, and learning about his mysterious past in India, it soon becomes clear to Alison that Alec died holding his secrets close to his chest. Alison is left craving the truth as she makes discoveries that threaten to tear her carefully crafted world apart. After speaking to Alec's handler, Coleman, and hearing that their "relationship" was likely a cover story, Alison traces Dorothy to Yorkshire and demands to hear the truth. Back in the 1940s Alison struggles with the aftermath of Alec's decisions, forced to raise her poverty-stricken young family in wartime London. Hearing wildly differing theories from different angles, one painting Alec as a wronged hero, the other as a cruel fantasist, an overwrought Alison is no longer sure who to believe. A final shock revelation inspires a profound and drastic new beginning for her. PBS aired the U.S. premiere of MRS. WILSON on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 9pm (check local listings), with back-to-back episodes. The finale debuted in the U.S. one week later on Sunday, April 7 at 9pm. In the finale, Alec's handler in the secret service drops a bombshell, but is it the truth or another lie? Resigned to uncertainty about the past, Alison receives a final surprise.
