Plot Synopsis

Hosted by Lyrica Okano, MORIMOTO'S SUSHI MASTER is a one-hour elimination competition series that features renowned chef and restauranter Masaharu Morimoto as head judge of a cooking competition centered on sushi. Morimoto is joined on the judging panel by Chef Dakota Weiss and Chef Kenji Lopez-Alt, who decide which chef has the skill, ingredients, delicacy and talent needed to perfect the art of sushi-making. Eight expert chefs embark on this journey of challenges -- from making spicy sushi to working a conveyor belt sushi -- as they try to avoid elimination. In the finale, two chefs serve Omakase style to the judges. All six episodes of MORIMOTO'S SUSHI MASTER's first season dropped on Friday, June 16, 2023 on The Roku Channel.

Season 2 of MORIMOTO'S SUSHI MASTER dropped on Friday, April 25, 2025 on The Roku Channel, which released all six episodes of the new season. Chef Masaharu Morimoto tests the skills of eight expert sushi chefs, alongside fellow judge, chef Phillip Frankland Lee, and host Lyrica Okano. Each week, the chefs face challenges that test their fundamental sushi skills, creativity, and out-of-the-box thinking. They'll present artfully inspired creations, including exquisite sushi platters, bento boxes, an omakase service, and more, hoping to evade elimination. One chef will win a cash prize and the title of Morimoto's Sushi Master. Episodes include:

"Knives Out": Culinary legend chef Morimoto puts eight sushi chefs to the test. First, they must prepare nigiri, sashimi, and maki rolls. Then, they must create a spectacular sushi platter. One chef is eliminated.

"Un'Bento Boxing": Chef Morimoto demonstrates how to prepare a perfect Japanese omelet and challenges the seven remaining chefs to make their own. Then, the chefs must create an upscale bento box with a personal twist.

"Smells Like Team Spirit": The chefs work in pairs for their fastest challenge yet. Then, the winners form new teams to create pop-up concepts and compete head-to-head. A special guest joins the judges, who send one chef home.

"Art of the Meal": This week, the chefs explore the concept of sushi as art. First, they create exquisite canapes inspired by origami. Then, they prepare stunning sashimi platters inspired by Japanese woodblock prints.

"Sweet Relief": Chef Morimoto tests the chefs' sweeter side in a dessert challenge with a tea-pairing twist. Then, the chefs create Japanese dishes with international flavors worthy of being on a Morimoto menu.

"The Final Omakase": The final chefs "choose their own adventure," showcasing a skill that will determine who is eliminated. Two chefs remain to create an omakase service, and one chef is named Morimoto's Sushi Master.
