Plot Synopsis

Using first-person interviews, re-enactments and archival footage, MOTIVES AND MURDERS delves into the minds of criminal investigators, revealing what it takes to capture notorious killers. Each one-hour episode features a different case, including these crimes in Season 1: Peggy Carr and her two sons test positive for a rare and deadly poison in Alturas, FL; an Orange County flight attendant, Jane Carver, is shot in the face in broad daylight, but the case remains cold until a second shooting occurs with the same M.O.; Jesse Howell is found murdered next to train tracks Woodstock, IL and his girlfriend, Wendy, is missing, leading detectives into the underworld of freight train riders and serial killers; a woman who had two husbands, police officer Glenn Turner and firefighter Randy Thompson, both die of cardiac arrhythmia; detectives discovery the body of Paul Campagna in an old cement quarry in Niagara Falls, showing the signs of a mob hit; popular teen Evelyn LeBlanc is found dead at a school in San Leandro, CA, but there are no leads until years later when another woman is viciously stabbed hundreds of miles away; two taxi drivers, Eleazar Hinojosa and John Parrish, are brutally murdered in two days in Austin, TX, but the case goes cold for years until a critical piece of evidence breaks it wide open; and Ian and Nancy Blackburn were found brutally murdered inside their car in Toronto, Ontario in what looked like a random killing, but one investigator launched a nationwide hunt for a serial killer. MOTIVES & MURDERS returned for its second season on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 9pm ET on Investigation Discovery, featuring a case involving an Austin woman who made the deadly decision to show her high-end home to a killer posing as a prospective buyer.
