Plot Synopsis

Starting in 2014 at Comic-Con San Diego, the MTVU FANDOM AWARDS annually honor fanboys' and fangirls' favorite shows and movies of the previous year, with all winners selected through online and social voting. Categories include: Fandom of the Year; OMG Moment of the Year; Ship of the Year (unspoken relationships fandoms are dying to see); Breakout Fandom of the Year; Best Fandom Forever (BFF); Fandom Feat of the Year; Visionary Award (John Green in 2014); and more. In its inaugural year, the MTVU FANDOM AWARDS took place along with the MTV Fan Fest on Thursday, July 27, 2014 at Petco Park during Comic-Con International: San Diego, featuring musical sets from Linkin Park and G-Eazy and taped appearances from celebrities including Hugh Jackman, Aaron Paul, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Dylan O'Brien, Holland Roden, Kat Graham and more. Plus, celebs like Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Chloe Grace Moretz, Channing Tatum, Tyler Posey and Gillian Jacobs dole out awards. MTV and mtvU premiered the 60-minute MTVU FANDOM AWARDS special on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT, celebrating the winners and showcasing the best moments from the show. On Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT, MTV premiered the 2015 MTV FANDOM AWARDS, hosted by Bella Thorne and Tyler Posey, which was filmed three days earlier at MTV Fandom Fest during Comic-Con San Diego. Fandom Fest is a free party at Petco Park open to all Comic-Con badge holders with food, drinks, games and giveaways, in addition to the performances by All Time Low and Flo Rida.

The 2016 MTV FANDOM AWARDS, hosted by Tyler Posey, premiered on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT on MTV, three days after taking over Petco Park in San Diego on Thursday, July 21. The highest honor of the night, "Fandom of the Year," was bestowed upon TEEN WOLF. Austin Butler of THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES presented the cast from the show, including Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Cody Christian, Dylan Sprayberry, Ian Bohen, JR Bourne and Khylin Rhambo with the honor. The award was given out just hours after the cast revealed during their Comic-Con panel that the upcoming sixth season would be its last. Star of the CW's ARROW, Stephen Amell, was on hand to accept one of the most anticipated awards of the night, "Ship of the Year," which went to Olicity for the second year in a row. Emma Roberts and Dave Franco, from NERVE, were on hand to present Alycia Debnam-Carey of THE 100 the award for "Fan Freakout of the Year;" the cast of the CW's IZOMBIE Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, David Anders and Aly Michalka, presented Dominic Sherwood, Katherine McNamara and Emeraude Toubia with the award for "Best New Fandom;" the cast of Power Rangers, including Becky G, Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler presented 5 Seconds of Summer with "Bandom of the Year." Plus, Kent Jones opened the show with a three-song set highlighted by "Don't Mind;" Pierce the Veil, introduced by Travis Mills, rocked out with a four-song set featuring "Circles;" and Krewella closed the show with a nine-song set list, including their single "Broken Record."
