Plot Synopsis

Each one-hour episode of MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED: HIDDEN AMERICA highlights an abandoned structure from somewhere in the United States, revealing the history of these forgotten ruins of the past while shining a light on the story of this land and its people. Featured structures include: Lake Delores Waterpark (Mojave Desert, CA); Abundant Life Building (Tulsa, OK); Super Guppy plane (Tucson, AZ); and Black Hills Ordinance Depot (Edgemont, SD).

The sophomore season of MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED: HIDDEN AMERICA premiered on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. America's past is filled with intriguing locations that bear exploration: diners, drive-ins, gas stations, fallout shelters, theaters, bars, pool halls, juke joints among many others. Some of these places haven't made it to present day use, but still stand as eerie reminders of a country's remarkable cultural history. In the season opener, "Charity Hospital: The Big Easy's Fight for Survival," a beloved hospital in the Big Easy was once the site of heroic efforts by medical staff and volunteers to evacuate patients after Hurricane Katrina; the historic Charity Hospital is being revitalized by another major New Orleans institution.

Season 3 of MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED: HIDDEN AMERICA debuted on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. In the season opener, "The Cult of Antelope, Oregon," a rural town in Oregon is invaded by an eccentric cult, a battered building in Florida plays a major role in the cigar trade, and a junkyard palace in New Jersey becomes the subject of controversy and rumors of the supernatural.

MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED: HIDDEN AMERICA returned for its fourth season on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 11pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. In one episode, they will explore the Malta Rocket testing facility, located about a three-hour drive from New York City where a dense forest hides a collection of bizarre industrial structures. These buildings helped send man to the moon by testing stolen Nazi designs and transforming them into the foundation of the Apollo program. Throughout the rest of the season, other neglected sites will be uncovered ranging from the Marconi Lodge that was once the headquarters for an infamous cult, a city impacted by America's deadliest nuclear reaction accident, the Space Research Corporation where super guns were created and more. In the season opener, "The Cult Hotel," a worldwide communications facility is taken over by a dangerous cult; a secret arsenal harbors the most destructive weapons ever known; an ordinary inn has a surprising history.
