Plot Synopsis

Set in the year 1999, this MYSTERY ROAD prequel series follows newly minted detective Jay Swan, who arrives in a dusty Outback town that's home to his estranged father and the woman who will change his life, Mary. Thrust into the investigation of a series of violent robberies, Jay faces a tragic death, a burgeoning love, and the brutal reality of being a police officer straddling two worlds. MYSTERY ROAD: ORIGIN made its U.S. debut on Monday, September 26, 2022 on Acorn TV, as the streaming service released the first two episodes. Two new episodes debut each Monday through October 10.

Episode 1 (U.S. debut on Monday, September 26, 2022): It's 1999, and young constable Jay Swan arrives for his new posting in his old stomping grounds. He grew up in the dusty Outback town of Jardine, and his estranged family still lives there. Before he's even in uniform, Jay finds himself in the middle of a series of violent robberies perpetrated by a masked gang. He also has a run-in with Mary Allen, the woman who will change his life forever.

Episode 2 (U.S. debut on Monday, September 26, 2022): A cattle truck is pulled over by the robber gang, masquerading as police by using Max's stolen patrol car. Theorizing the gang could be the Sons of the Soil a group with links to drug dealing, crime, and white supremacists the cops pay them a visit that leads to a surprising revelation. Meanwhile, legal aid lawyer Anousha starts looking into a cold case: the murder of Mary's foster brother, Josh.

Episode 3 (U.S. debut on Monday, October 3, 2022): Reeling from his father's death, Jay questions whether Jack truly killed himself. He follows his father's trail and discovers that Jack had a secret marijuana plantation on the salt lake, which is being guarded by a woman named Ziggy. As Jay wonders if the weed made Jack a threat to the Sons of the Soil, Anousha examines the crux of the Josh Allen case: the confession by the supposed killer-Ziggy.

Episode 4 (U.S. debut on Monday, October 3, 2022): Jay discovers a debt notice among his father's things that he later also finds in mail addressed to his brother, Sputty. Suspecting a scam, Jay grills Sputty, who denies any knowledge of the debt or the business that owes the money. Meanwhile, a thumbprint on Jack's rifle belongs to Ziggy, but Anousha has doubts about the distressed young woman's guilt. And Jay and Mary go on a date.

Episode 5 (U.S. debut on Monday, October 10, 2022): Artwork and Aboriginal artifacts are stolen during a break-in at the Southwell house, and the police are still struggling to understand what motivates the gang and where they will strike next. A video camera left behind from the assault on Max reveals vital clues. Anousha learns of some locals involved in Josh's original investigation, while Jay tails a suspicious miner to an abandoned house.

Episode 6 (U.S. debut on Monday, October 10, 2022): As the first shipments of gold ore are transported from the reopened Southwell mine, the gang intends to intercept the train, but Jay has found clues pointing to their plans. A deadly confrontation results, but it's only the beginning, as the long-hidden corruption within the town puts more lives in danger.
