Plot Synopsis

Inspired by real-life events, this one-hour drama series chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the drug kingpins of the late 1980s and the corroborative efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. It details the conflicting forces -- legal, political, police, military and civilian -- that clash in an effort to control the world's most powerful commodity: cocaine. Shot on location in Bogota, Medellin and other parts of Colombia, Season 1 of NARCOS, as told through the narration of DEA Agent Steve Murphy, focuses on the rise of notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, revealing the roles law enforcement, politicians and civilians played in these events, and how the elements worked with or against each other. After arriving in Colombia, Murphy quickly realizes the situation is much more complicated than he expected, and he relies on his partner, Javier Pena, who has been living in South America, to help him adjust to the landscape. Netflix released all 10 episodes of NARCOS on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. Netflix launched Season 2 of NARCOS on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. The second season picks up just as Season 1 ended: with Escobar on the run from the prison he built with the DEA, as he tries to outmaneuver the Colombian military.

On Friday, September 1, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the 10-episode third season of NARCOS. In Season 3, the rules have changed in the aftermath of the bloody hunt for Escobar as the DEA turns its attention to his successors: the Cali Cartel. The season opens as the Gentlemen of Cali gather their associates together for a big surprise announcement about the future of their business. Then, a gas incident threatens to disrupt the Cali-government deal and Jorge is asked to help out. Pena grapples with his former Los Pepes connection.

Led by four powerful godfathers, this cartel operates much differently than Escobar's, preferring to bribe government officials and keep its violent actions out of the headlines.
