Plot Synopsis

NEW YEAR'S ROCKIN' EVE is an annual special, broadcast on New Year's Eve, ringing in the new year with popular musical acts. This special first aired on Sunday, December 31, 1972 on NBC at 11:30pm with much of the show taped on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA, with performances by: headliner Three Dog Night; Blood, Sweat and Tears; Mary Travers; Al Green; and Billy Preston. The following year, still originating (via tape) from the Queen Mary in Long Beach with some live footage of the celebration in New York's Times Square, performances included: George Carlin; Billy Preston; Linda Ronstadt; the Tower of Power; and the Pointer Sisters. In its third year, ROCKIN' EVE switched to ABC, where it has aired ever since.
Ryan Seacrest hosts DICK CLARK'S NEW YEAR'S ROCKIN' EVE WITH RYAN SEACREST 2022 with Lucy Hale and Billy Porter in Times Square, Ciara once again hosting in Hollywood, and Billy Porter as host of the New Orleans-based portions. This program marks the 50th installment of America's biggest celebration of the year and will include 5-1/2 hours of special performances and reports on New Year's festivities from around the globe.

The festivities kick off in primetime from 8-11pm ET (live)/PT (tape) on ABC, featuring live performances from New York's Times Square, as well as multiple performances from the celebrations in Los Angeles and New Orleans. The party continues from 11:30pm - 1:09am ET (live)/PT (tape) with the final countdown in Times Square. Finally, the night wraps up from 1:09 - 2:15am ET (live)/PT (tape) with additional performances from Los Angeles.

New York: In his 17th year, host Ryan Seacrest oversees New Year's festivities in Times Square first-time co-host Liza Koshy. 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, hip-hop superstar and multihyphenate entertainer LL Cool J performs his iconic hits from the NYRE stage. Pop/R&B superstar Chloe wows the Times Square crowd with an unforgettable performance of her chart-topping hit "Have Mercy." Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and award-winning rock legends Journey perform a special collection of notable and celebrated hits. International Latin phenom Karol G kicks off the night's festivities with a red-hot performance of her fan-favorite hits.

Los Angeles: Ciara hosts the party in Hollywood with performances by AJR and duo Daisy The Great ("BANG!" "Record Player"); Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker ("Sk8ter Boi," "Bite Me"); Big Boi with singer Sleepy Brown ("The Way You Move," "Animalz"); Don Omar ("Danza Kuduro") with Nio Garcia ("Se Menea"); French Montana ("FWMGAB," "Unforgettable"); Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ("Can't Hold Us") with singer Windser ("Next Year"); Maneskin ("Beggin'," "Mamma Mia"); Mae Muller with Polo G ("Better Days"); Polo G ("Rapstar," "Smooth Criminal"); Masked Wolf ("Astronauts in the Ocean," "Pandemonium"); OneRepublic ("Counting Stars," "Run"); Walker Hayes ("Fancy Like," "AA").

New Orleans: Co-host Billy Porter delivers his new hit single and a sneak peak of a future classic on the riverboat Louis Armstrong on the mighty Mississippi River in the historic French Quarter.

Puerto Rico: Roselyn Sanchez leads the festivities in Puerto Rico. Global music star and reggaeton dynamo Daddy Yankee gives a special hometown performance.

Additionally, country artist Jessie James Decker returns as Powerball correspondent for the third year. Decker provides live updates throughout the evening, checking in with five randomly selected finalists across the country, before revealing the POWERBALL First Millionaire of the Year just after midnight on Jan. 1, 2022.
