Plot Synopsis

NFL ICONS is a documentary series that celebrates the biggest names in the history of the National Football League (NFL). Each one-hour episode focuses on a single subject, whose career comes to life through a deep dive into the NFL Films archive. Decades of interviews, highlights, mic'd up sound and never-before-seen off-the-field moments are placed into context by the icon's own words and narrator Rich Eisen. The series opener focuses on Brett Favre. He was part country boy, part gunslinger and always part kid, a show stopper for more than two decades including memorable stints in Green Bay, New York and Minnesota. But with the Packers, Jets, Vikings and beyond, making reality out of what only sounds possible in myth was Brett Favre's calling card. Other icons featured in the eight-episode first season include Hall of Famers Brett Favre (Oct. 2), Emmitt Smith (Oct. 9), Vince Lombardi (Oct. 16), Jerome Bettis (Oct. 23), Jerry Rice (Oct. 30), Steve Sabol (Nov. 6), Marcus Allen (Nov. 13), and Joe Namath (Nov. 20).

The eight-episode sophomore season of NFL ICONS premiered on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT on EPIX, with Rich Eisen returning as narrator. Season 2 kicks off with an hour-long biography of NFL coaching and broadcasting legend John Madden. In addition to Madden, the football greats who are featured this season are NFL Hall of Famers Walter Payton (Sept. 17), Jimmy Johnson (Sept. 24), Steve Young (Oct. 1), Ray Lewis (Oct. 8), Troy Aikman (Oct. 15), Cris Carter (Oct. 22), and Tony Dungy (Oct. 29). Each episode provides fresh insight and perspective on their careers and unique backstories in a stylized NFL Films presentation.

Season 3 of NFL ICONS premiered on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 10pm ET/PT on MGM+ for a four-week run, with Rich Eisen returning as narrator. The new season features Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Brown (Oct 21), Bill Cowher (Oct 28), Mike Singletary (Nov 4), and Charles Woodson (Nov 11). The season opener chronicles the rise of NFL rusher Jim Brown, from St. Simons Island and Syracuse University to the NFL's Hall of Fame; a look at Brown's many job titles, including Cleveland Browns running back, civil rights activist and Hollywood leading man.
