Plot Synopsis

Each episode of this series of 60-minute specials uses a Film Studies 101 look to explore a different cinematic genre, including interviews with actors and other talent. On Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 8pm ET, TMC premiered A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: COPS & ROBBERS AND CRIME WRITERS, the work of lifelong film buff Laurent Bouzereau, who highlighted how movies have inspired some of the publishing world's most popular writers. The special is organized around themes and topics in cops and robbers films like the big heist, the rogue cop taking on the corrupt establishment, the sympathetic crook, and the femme fatale. Plus, the special featured interviews with James Ellroy, Heywood Gould, Otto Penzler, Chuck Hogan, Michael Connelly, George Pelecanos, Don Winslow, Joseph Wambaugh, Randy Jurgensen, Philip Kerr, Lee Child, Tess Gerritsen, Karin Slaughter, Robert Daley, and more.

On Tuesday, November 24, 2014 at 8pm ET, TCM debuted A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: GEORGE LUCAS & THE WORLD OF FANTASY CINEMA, a 75-minute special that explores fantasy films that sparked Lucas' imagination and inspired his career. In this new program, Lucas discusses the origins and evolution of fantasy cinema, the influence of certain films on his own career, the differences between fantasy and science fiction, as well as what the future holds for the genre. Along the way, Lucas examines a variety of influential films including King Kong (1933), The Wizard of Oz (1939), Dr. Strangelove (1964), Planet of the Apes (1968), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Back to the Future (1985), Labyrinth (1986) as well as an in-depth discussion of his own iconic Star Wars series. Plus, this special kicks off a 24-hour salute to fantasy movies, ending at 8pn on Wednesday, November 25:
