Plot Synopsis

Using archival video and new interviews and directed by political writer Diego Enrique Osorno, 1994 is a five-episode series that examines Mexican politics in 1994, a year marked by the rise of the EZLN and the assassination of Luis Donaldo Colosio. In the series opener, Mexican political experts, including ex-President Carlos Salinas, detail Luis Donaldo Colosio's rise to become the PRI presidential candidate in 1993. Then, in the second episode, the Zapatista uprising in early 1994 brings peacemaker Camacho sudden fame, changing the electoral landscape. Colosio gives a powerful, rousing speech. Netflix released the entire series on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT.
