Plot Synopsis

Host Zach Goldbaum travels around the world to explore the artists and communities in the most compelling -- and sometimes controversial -- music scenes. In each one-hour episode of NOISEY, Zach travels to a different city, including Compton, where he sits down with Kendrick Lamar and meets his friends, many of whom appear on the cover of his critically acclaimed album, To Pimp a Butterfly. Kendrick and the Piru gang members he grew up with give a candid portrait of life in Compton, helping show a deeper side to a group that society has written off. Viceland released the Kendrick Lamar episode on its YouTube channel on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, one week before the show's official series premiere on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Season 2 of NOISEY premiered on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on Viceland. The season opener, "Bay Area with G-Easy and E-40," reveals that police brutality and gentrification mean Black Lives Matter plays a big role in Bay Area rap culture; G-Eazy, E-40, Nef the Pharoah and more explore these topics with Zach. Later in the second season, Zach travels to Atlanta (featuring T.I, Young Thug, Jeezy, Migos, Lil Yachty, 21 Savage, Metro Boomin') where trends are born and Nashville (featuring Kesha, JellyRoll, Margo Price, Struggle Jennings), where he meets the outlaws, outsiders and victims of the American pop music machine. On global trips to Paris, Zach examines Islamaphobia through the sounds of MHD, Medine, S.Pri Noir, and Niska and Seoul where "K-Pop" rules all (with super stars like Big Bang leading the way), while in Lagos, Nigeria (featuring Ice Prince, Major Lazer, Tiwa Savage and White Man Periwinkle) some of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the world are producing some of its most interesting music.
