Plot Synopsis

Once a week, actor Lou Diamond Phillips hosts AN OFFICER AND A MOVIE, showcasing a military movie and matching the event with in-studio discussion and commentary from retired and active duty officers who lived through major battles or have an expertise in the conflicts depicted in the film. Films in the inaugural season included THE GREAT SANTINI, KELLY'S HEROES, HART'S WAR, WINDTALKERS, THREE KINGS, and THE DIRTY DOZEN, with these guests: Vice Admiral Hank Mustin; Retired Lt. Col. Keith Dickson of the United States Army Special Forces (the Green Berets) and author of 'The Civil War and WWII for Dummies'; and more. When this series of movies returned for Summer 2012 for its second season, it moved from Friday nights, where it aired during 2011, to Saturday nights. Season 3 of this series debuted on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 8pm ET, featuring PLATOON with special guest Marine Captain Dale Dye (Ret.), who survived several combat operations in Vietnam, receiving three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star for Valor, two Navy Commendation Medals, and a Joint Service Commendation Medal. Plus, Dye worked as an advisor on PLATOON and even played a small role. Other films in Season 3 included: GALLIPOLI with former Army Specialist and Super Bowl Champion Rocky Bleier; HALLS OF MONTEZUMA with Major William Wilburn, who has served with the Marines all around the world; and UNCOMMON VALOR with Army Special Forces Major Bruce Person (Ret.), a member of the veterans' support and advocacy group Rolling Thunder.
