Plot Synopsis

1000-LB SISTERS is a one-hour reality series that follows Amy and Tammy Slaton, as they try to lose enough weight to qualify for and undergo life-changing bariatric surgery. Amy and Tammy, spunky sisters from Kentucky, have shared their weight struggles with their YouTube fans, but are now ready to lose weight so they can pursue their dreams. Younger sister Amy, age 31, wants to start a family with her new husband but is having trouble getting pregnant due to her weight and health issues. At 32, Tammy needs help with everyday tasks and had to move in with the newlyweds after her last hospital stay. She dreams of moving out of Amy's house so that she can live independently and find a love interest. But at 406 and 605 lbs. respectively, Amy and Tammy have to lose weight before they can get approved for the surgery they hope will change their lives. This series follows them every step of the way, from appointments with their doctor and navigating the relatable challenges of eating healthier and moving more, to finding out if they qualify for surgery and having the procedure if they do. Whether it's sampling exercise equipment like thigh masters and shake weights or cutting back on unusual culinary treats they enjoy creating like "dressed bananas" (bananas dipped in Miracle Whip dressing and rolled in chopped peanuts), the sisters learn and laugh as they try to embrace a healthy lifestyle. Tammy's limited mobility forces her to rely on Amy more than she'd like to, adding to the tension that already exists just from living under the same roof. She hasn't left home in six years except for medical attention, and the isolation has taken a toll on both of them. Longing to connect with people, the sisters created a YouTube channel where they post funny videos and document their lives. But behind all their jokes and wacky humor, the sisters know they have to get serious about weight loss -- or the consequences could be life-threatening.

The sophomore season of 1000-LB SISTERS premiered on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on TLC. Last season, fans watched Amy and Tammy attempt their biggest endeavor yet: losing enough weight to qualify for and undergo life-changing bariatric surgery. Amy, 33, qualified and went through with the surgery, while Tammy, 34, struggled to reach her goal weight. This season, a few months after her successful surgery, Amy learns more good news - that she and her husband Michael are expecting their first baby. Having a child of their own is everything Amy has always dreamed of, but Tammy is concerned that Amy is still recovering from her procedure, and that her doctor had warned her to wait at least two years to get pregnant. Meanwhile, Tammy has moved in next door to Amy and Michael and relies on them for her basic daily needs. Amy worries that with a baby on the way, she won't have time to care for Tammy, and hopes her sister can learn to become more independent. During quarantine, Tammy's weight has fluctuated, worrying Amy and her family that Tammy's recent weight gain means that she has fallen into old habits. The sisters' older brother Chris decides to join Tammy on her journey in the hopes of getting approved for weight loss surgery himself and to hold Tammy accountable. They hope they can motivate her to get back on track in order to qualify for weight loss surgery. Meanwhile, Tammy is head over heels for her boyfriend Jerry, who she met in person once last year in Atlanta. Now, he's agreed to visit her in Kentucky and Tammy hopes this means he's ready to take their relationship to the next level. However, when Tammy's siblings discover the details of how they met, they worry that Jerry could sabotage Tammy's weight loss goals and distract her from making her health a priority. Additionally, in a short-form series premiering December 11 exclusively on social, Tammy and Amy will give viewers a fun-filled experience cooking healthy foods, attempting the "Hot and Sour" challenge, and even giving Amy's husband, Michael, a makeover.

Season 3 of 1000-LB SISTERS debuted on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on TLC. With her weight spiraling, Tammy makes the game-changing decision to check herself into rehab for food addiction, but her stay there may be short-lived as she considers the best way to reach her goals. She also appears to be talking to a new love interest, which is cause for concern for her family, as relationships have hindered Tammy's progress in the past. Amy is dealing with her own stress, and while her dreams came true when she became a mom to son Gage, balancing the demands of motherhood with her own weight-loss goals may prove to be impossible. Meanwhile, the sisters' brother Chris had reached the goal Dr. Smith set for him to be eligible for bariatric surgery but after a setback following a procedure to remove a boil from his leg, he fears he has blown his chances for life-saving surgery. Facing another check-up with their doctor, Tammy and Chris must both face the music and see whether their progress qualifies them for weight-loss surgery.

The fourth season of 1000-LB SISTERS premiered on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT on TLC. After surviving a near-death experience, Tammy struggles to cope with her new reality. Then, she makes a life-altering decision, one that no one saw coming. With baby number two on the way, Amy feels her family is complete, but she soon realizes being an overweight mom may prove to be too much. Chris is desperate to get rid of excess skin and qualify for skin removal surgery, while Amanda offloads some dead weight of her own.

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT, 1000-LB SISTERS returned for its fifth season. In Season 5, Tammy faces life in the real world when she is finally approved to go home after spending more than a year in rehab. This breakthrough means she's ready for the next chapter but sadly, her husband Caleb doesn't get approved to leave with her. Learning to embrace her new body and life at home, Tammy also accomplishes some exciting milestones for the first time in over a decade like riding in the front seat of a car. Meanwhile, Amy's marriage is turned upside down, which leads her to make the hardest decision of her life. Chris continues to work towards skin removal surgery, while Amanda and Misty embark on their own health journeys.
