Plot Synopsis

After searching the internet for undiscovered music talent, the show's host surprises unsuspecting singers with an opportunity to be the opening act for world-renowned musical acts at iconic venues -- only five days before the events -- and then the program's Artist Development Team gives each new artist a crash course to prepare them for their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. International Emmy-winning producer Nigel Lythgoe and his Artist Development Team scoured the Internet, searching for the very best performers, singers and songwriters, for the sole purpose of opening this Summer for the likes of Nicki Minaj, Rod Stewart, LMFAO, and Brad Paisley. In this series, there are no auditions, no judges, no eliminations and no competitions. After the host surprises them -- often in unusual ways -- the up-and-coming singer is whisked off to a five-day intense boot camp to prepare for their tour date, with instruction from members of the Artist Development Team: platinum-selling country superstar Martina McBride; author, Fall Out Boy member and Decaydance Records founder Pete Wentz; singer and BMI Songwriter of the Year award winner Jason Derulo; chart-topping producer Antonina Armato from Rock Mafia; and Nick Cooper, a vocal coach who has worked with Beyonce and Katy Perry. During training, there's more involved in opening on stage for the first time than vocal coaching, songwriting and seemingly endless rehearsals. The openers often have personal challenges to overcome, including family members who don't support their dreams, cash flow woes, medical issues and picking up and moving to a completely different city where they don't know anyone, just to be in the thick of the music industry. Each 60-minute episode focuses on the opening act for one of these superstar headliners: Nicki Minaj at James L. Knight Center in Miami, FL; Rod Stewart at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, NV; LMFAO at Amway Center in Orlando, FL; Brad Paisley at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA; Jason Aldean at Oak Mountain Ampitheatre in Birmingham, AL; Jason Mraz at Waikiki Shell in Honolulu, HI; and Gym Class Heroes in El Paso, TX.
