Plot Synopsis

In an intimate setting, modern masters tell stories that few have heard before, allowing them to share their successes, failures, triumphs, disappointments and heartbreaks. Season 1 included: Oprah Winfrey; Sidney Poitier; Jay-Z; Maya Angelou; Dr. Condoleezza Rice; Diane Sawyer; Lorne Michaels; Simon Cowell. Season 3, which premiered on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT, featured: Alicia Keys, Cindy Crawford, Tom Brokaw, Stevie Nicks, Lenny Kravitz, Diahann Carroll, Susan Sarandon and Berry Gordy. Oprah Winfrey is an Executive Producer of MASTER CLASS and hand-picked each master. OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network aired a sneak peek of the series on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 2pm, followed by the official series premiere on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 10pm. MASTER CLASS returned for its fourth season on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on OWN, featuring multiple Grammy and Emmy award-winning actor and musician Justin Timberlake in the Season 4 premiere. Subsequent episodes in Season 4 highlighted these masters sharing their greatest lessons: Whoopi Goldberg (June 1); Tim McGraw (June 8); Robin Roberts (June 15); Lionel Richie (June 22); Barbara Walters (June 29); Vanessa Williams (July 13); Billy Bob Thornton (July 20); and Sharon Stone (July 27). Season 5 of OPRAH'S MASTER CLASS premiered on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In the season opener, Emmy-award-winner Ellen DeGeneres discusses her experience of coming out in front of her show viewers and making television history. Subsequent episodes in Season 5 feature these stars: Robert Duvall, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Smokey Robinson, Jeff Bridges, James Taylor and Patti LaBelle. On Saturday, September 1, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered a new episode of OPRAH'S MASTER CLASS, featuring Steve Harvey. Standup comic, TV host, radio host and bestselling author Steve Harvey's journey to success has been anything but easy. Steve discusses the highs and many lows -- including years of homelessness -- that ultimately paved his road to stardom. After this most recent run of episodes debuted at 10pm on Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22, OWN premiered five more episodes on Saturdays in September, ending with back-to-back episodes from 9-11pm on Saturday, September 23.
On Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered a special episode of OPRAH'S MASTER CLASS to celebrate the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr. Before he was a U.S. Congressman, John Lewis was one of the pioneers of the Civil Rights Movement. Lewis reflects on his life of activism and his friendship with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and offers wisdom for the ongoing fight for justice and equality.
