Plot Synopsis

Lisa Ling travels across the United States, investigating the country's most controversial and thought-provoking issues, including religious movements, sex offenders, drug addiction and online brides. When she delves into a topic, she immerses herself into the lives of the people she meets, offering compelling accounts of varied experiences and providing insight into America's different perspectives on these issues. OUR AMERICA returned for its fourth season on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 10pm ET, with an investigation into the real world of BDSM, and followed one week later with a story about how childhood obesity is reducing life expectancy. OUR AMERICA WITH LISA LING returned for its fifth and final season on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on OWN. The Season 5 premiere, "Fighting Satan," chronicled how many Americans believe that the devil is alive and well, which has sparked a growing movement in churches to fight him head on. In this episode, Lisa traveled to Georgia and Florida to visit ministries that practice deliverance, where faith and the power of Christ are called upon to cast Satan's demons from the emotionally tormented. OUR AMERICA's subsequent nine episodes of its final season tackled more all-new topics, including gun violence in Philadelphia, ADHD in American families, the largest foster care system in the country, criminal informants, the HIV epidemic in the African American community and the emotional story of a woman held captive for months. Plus, the new season featured updates on past stories, as Lisa followed-up with: three individuals on personal journeys to change their gender; two young women originally featured on an episode about teen mothers; and the controversial case of registered sex offender, Travis Iosue, who spent 16 years in prison for touching the breast of a young girl.

On Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, OWN aired the series finale of OUR AMERICA WITH LISA LING. In the series' last episode, "The Missing," Lisa searches for Valencia's daughter, Unique, who disappeared from her home while her two sons and a visiting niece slept soundly in the next room. She has not been heard from since, but that won't stop the search.
