Season 1
Plot Synopsis
Narrated by Barack Obama, OUR OCEANS is a five-part documentary that takes viewers on a 75,000-mile cruise across and beneath the oceans as they are today, providing unprecedented access to some of the most unexplored realms of Earth. Using cutting-edge scientific research and newly-developed underwater film-making technology, the series features action sequences, drone footage, seabed closeups, and never-before-seen animal behaviors: Sea bream playing tennis? Humpback whales staging heists? An octopus packing heat? It's a literal deep dive into the emotional, relatable lives of sea creatures, as they face new challenges and develop skills made necessary by the changing waters around them. From the tiny, tenacious cuttlefish to the gracefully enormous blue whale, every ocean-dwelling creature relies on that current to provide the resources they require to survive. A lonely puffin awaiting his mate in the North Atlantic is linked to the bioluminescent spectaculars off Southern California; bottlenose dolphins in the Indian Ocean frolic in the same waters as polar bear cubs in the Arctic. As the current flows past clownfish circling colorful coral reefs in the Western Pacific to the frigid Antarctic ice floes of chinstrap penguins and crabeater seals, it carries with it valuable nutrients, newborn life, man-made dangers, and hope for the future. All five episodes of OUR OCEANS dropped on Wednesday, November 19, 2024 on Netflix:
"Pacific Ocean": In the world's largest ocean, one mighty current brings the Pacific to life in astonishing ways, from enriching rainforests to sustaining coral reefs.
"Indian Ocean": From the minute mantis shrimp to the mighty sperm whale, inhabitants of the tropical Indian Ocean use their ingenuity to find food and raise their young.
"Atlantic Ocean": In the choppy, unpredictable Atlantic Ocean, fish and mammals must face down predators and navigate the fast-changing climate in order to survive.
"Arctic Ocean": With temperatures mounting and sea ice melting, the creatures of the Arctic Ocean must go to new extremes to survive in a new, warmer world.
"Southern Ocean": In the most remote ocean on Earth, the Global Ocean Current is at its most powerful -- and its cold waters are home to some extraordinary species.
