Plot Synopsis

In each half-hour episode of PAUL SHAFFER PLUS ONE, Paul Shaffer sits down with a different icon of music, including rock & roll legends, blues icons, great beards, and a member of Spinal Tap! In the one-on-one interview, Paul reveals the story behind their favorite songs and what inspired them to get into the music industry, while allowing viewers to listen in an impromptu jam session between the renowned band leader and his guest. Guests in the first season include:

Joe Walsh (Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): He's an incredible solo artist, has played with a former Beatle, and is a member of what of the biggest bands in America. He's been placed at #54 on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list, and he will prove he deserves it when he joins Paul Shaffer on our series premiere. He'll talk about how he created the iconic solo for "Life In The Fast Lane" and even give Shaffer a little guitar lesson.

Graham Nash (Sunday, September 22, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): Graham Nash has earned four honorary doctorates, two inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and even published his own photography collection. Oh, and he was a member of multiple bands that changed music forever. From his time with The Hollies to Crosby, Stills & Nash (with or without Neil Young), we'll cover all aspects of his career.

Sammy Hagar (Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): Does Sammy really need an introduction? You may know him as a beloved member of the AXS TV family from ROCK & ROLL ROAD TRIP OR from being a member of Van Halen, Montrose, Chickenfoot, and The Circle, his legendary solo career OR from rocking the business world as a nightclub and restaurant owner and founder of Cabo Wabo, Sammy's Beach Bar Rum, and Santo Mezquila. As much as you know about The Red Rocker, we guarantee you'll learn something new when he sits down with Paul Shaffer.

Billy Gibbons (Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): He has a great beard and is an even greater rocker. Since the late 60s, he's been rocking as a member of ZZ Top (who started their career by opening up for Jimi Hendrix) and has since become a legend in his own right. Rolling Stone ranked him as #32 on the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list, as sold over 25 million albums, and continues to put on some of the best live shows in classic rock.

Donald Fagen of Steely Dan (Sunday, October 13, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): Donald Fagen was born and raised in New Jersey and at a young began to develop an interest in jazz, soul, funk, and Motown music. After graduating from high school, he attended Bard College, where he met fellow future band member, Walter Becker at a coffee house. Together, the two formed the Grammy winning, multi-platinum, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted, Steely Dan.

Buddy Guy (Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): When you've influenced Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr., and John Mayer, you know you've made an incredible mark on the world of music. Buddy Guy is one of the most heavily decorated blues musicians with inductions in multiple music halls of fame, a Kennedy Center Honor, multiple Grammy awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award, and even a national holiday (December 8th to be exact).

Harry Shearer as Derek Smalls of Spinal Tap (Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): You've seen SPINAL TAP, now get ready to "turn it up to 11", when Derek Smalls joins the show. The legendary bassist will take us through his life from his time in Spinal Tap and what he's doing with his time after the breakup, including becoming a prize-winning gardener. This is a conversation that you will only hear on AXS TV!

Smokey Robinson (Sunday, November 3, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): Smokey is a man who changed music as a part of Motown music, both as a member of The Miracles and as Motown's VP. His contributions to music has earned him a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the coveted Gershwin Prize from the Library of Congress.

Martin Short (Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 8pm ET/5pm PT): The first season ends when Paul is joined by comedian, actor, voice artist, singer, and writer, Martin Short, for this week's episode. We're closing out an incredible season with some hysterical banter, clever wit, and electric chemistry between the two long-time friends. In this sneak peek, Paul asks Martin where the inspiration came from for one of his most iconic characters, Ed Grimley. The answer? Simple the desperate need to get a laugh.
