Plot Synopsis

Created, written, and executive produced by Maya Erskine, Anna Konkle, and Sam Zvibleman, PEN15 stars Erskine and Konkle playing versions of themselves as thirteen-year-old outcasts in the year 2000, surrounded by actual thirteen-year-olds, where the best day of your life can turn into your worst with the stroke of a gel pen. The series opens on the first day of seventh grade in the year 2000, where school rejects -- Anna and Maya -- get a lot of unexpected attention. Then, the duo become fascinated with the mature girls in their class who smoke. They are faced with the age-old question: stay home and play pretend or go out and do drugs? Hulu released the 10-episode first season of PEN15 on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT.

Season 2 of PEN15 debuted on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT on Hulu. The new season opens two days after the dance, with Maya and Anna reluctantly going to a lame pool party. A crush unexpectedly shows up, causing them to question their sanity and reputations. Then, Maya zeros in on her crush, while Anna deals with the fallout from her parents' divorce. Together they find outlets in an unexpected extracurricular activity.

On Friday, August 27, 2021, Hulu released "Jacuzzi," a special animated episode of PEN15. On vacation with Curtis, Anna and Maya are introduced to new crippling insecurities. The girls try to ignore them but a mystical turn makes their self doubt impossible to forget.

PEN15 returned for the final seven episodes of Season 2 on Friday, December 3, 2021 on Hulu. In the mid-season debut, "Bat Mitzvah," an upcoming Bat Mitzvah forces Maya to face a realization about her family's socio economic status while Anna grapples with an existential crisis. Then, in the series finale, "Home," Anna and Maya are far from where they began -- and now all they want is to go back home.
