Plot Synopsis

Each year since 1895, the United States Golf Association has conducted a championship tournament at various golf courses across the United States. First played in 1895 at the Newport Golf and Country Club, the inaugural competition featured 10 professionals and one amateur who started the 36-hole competition, which host-course assistant Horace Rawlins won. The US OPEN was first televised nationally in 1954, as NBC broadcast coverage of the final day of the three-day event on Saturday, June 19, 1954 from 4-6pm ET. ABC held broadcast rights from 1966-1994, during which ABC Sports expanded its coverage in 1977 so that all 18 holes of the final two rounds were broadcast live for the first time. In 1982, the first two rounds were broadcast live for the first time, as cable network ESPN covered the early rounds. From 1995-2014, NBC televised the US OPEN, recently broadcasting 7.5 hours of each of the final two rounds and providing partial coverage of the early rounds in conjunction with ESPN.

In 2015 for the 115th U.S. Open Championship, FOX Sports is scheduled to offer 38.5 live hours from Thursday through Sunday on FOX and FOX Sports 1, a three-and-a-half hour increase from a year ago on NBC/ESPN. Moreover, FOX Sports is televising 22.5 hours on FOX, up from 19 hours on broadcast television on NBC in 2014. Of the 22.5 FOX hours, 11.5 hours of live action are slated for prime time, up from five prime-time hours scheduled for broadcast television on NBC in 2012, the last time the U.S. Open was played in the Pacific Time Zone.
