Plot Synopsis

WHAT WOULD YOU DO? uses hidden cameras and actors to see how people react when put in provocative situations. The program takes real-life situations, some of them straight from the headlines, and records the everyday dilemmas that test character and values. Will people be compelled to act or just mind their own business? ABC debuted a new season of this series on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT, with an episode that features these scenarios: a rude street musician who makes his living insulting people; a clearly intoxicated couple and their young child are sitting at a marina bar, drinking and carrying on, when they head back to their boat; a transgender girl trying on dresses to wear to her prom; and a woman in a wedding dress who runs into a bar, sits down at a stool and orders some hard liquor, while explaining she is having cold feet. On Friday, May 29, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, ABC premiered a new season of WHAT WOULD YOU DO? The season opener features these scenarios: Online Predator; Race Appropriate Toys; Inappropriate Mom; Invasion of Privacy; and Bowling Shoe Swap. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? returned for a new season on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC.
A new season of WHAT WOULD YOU DO? premiered on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC, with John Quinones returning. The new season continues May 24 and then Fridays at 9pm beginning June 15. Scenarios in the season opener include:

- A young woman is meeting her parents for lunch to let them know that she is engaged to a woman. Her parents voice their disapproval of her marrying a woman. How will other diners react?

- A teenage boy grabs his girlfriend forcefully in public, snatches her smartphone and tries to control what she's doing. What will bystanders say?

- A bus driver is at a bar drinking heavily, planning to go back to work straight from the bar to pick up students from a field trip. Will others step in to prevent him from getting behind the wheel?

- A senior citizen is working as a restaurant waiter and is slow in taking a customer's order. When he brings the food, it is not what the young man ordered. The customer is impatient and complains about the waiter's age, speed and inability to get the order correct. Will other customers come to the waiter's defense?

- A laundromat customer starts stealing clothing from others' washers and dryers. What will the witnesses say and do? Will they try to stop the customer from stealing those clothes?
