Plot Synopsis

Hosted by Tristan "Mack" Wilds and executive produced by Tina Knowles-Lawson, PROFILED: THE BLACK MAN is a four-part docuseries that examines the origins of the widespread stereotypes that have permeated society and impacted the lives of Black men in America for centuries. Through a mixture of historical footage, real-life testimony, and commentary from an array of renowned thought leaders, this series reveals the difficulties Black men have faced, both in the past and present-day, while also highlighting and celebrating the triumphs and resilience of countless extraordinary men. In addition, each one-hour episode features commentary from notable community members such as executive producer Tina Knowles-Lawson, civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson, activist Tamika Mallory, hip-hop culture icon Sway Calloway, the Grammy, Emmy and Tony award-winning Billy Porter and more. As host, Wilds guides the audience through each episode and dismantling long-standing stereotypes about Black men that have plagued the nation since its inception while exploring and debunking a different stereotype each week. The four parts are as follows:

"Black Men Are Dangerous" (Saturday, February 12, 2022): Often, the images of Black men are presented as dangerous, violent or menaces to society. This untrue stereotype is examined through new interviews, archival footage, and honest dialogue.

"Black Men Are Absent Fathers" (Saturday, February 19, 2022): The media often portrays African American men as deadbeat dads, but what is the truth about this topic? What are the real statistics? Experts, celebrities, Black fathers, and more tackle this stereotype through honest dialogue and interviews.

"Black Men Devalue Black Women" (Saturday, February 26, 2022): Notable cultural commentators honestly discuss and reflect on the long-standing false assumption that Black men devalue Black women. Then, three Black men show how they love, honor and respect Black women in their daily life and work.

"Black Men Don't Cry" (Saturday, March 5, 2022): Society often presents Black man as callous and emotionally unavailable, but what is the truth about Black male vulnerability? Experts, celebrities, and everyday men address this stereotype, and Billy Porter shares his journey to emotional liberation.
