Plot Synopsis

Based on the book "La Reina Del Sur" by Arturo Perez-Reverte, QUEEN OF THE SOUTH tells the powerful story of Teresa Mendoza, a woman who is forced to run and seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. In the process, she teams up with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. Teresa was a poor young woman from the barrio of Jalisco, Mexico, who found a way above her hopeless conditions -- first by falling in love with a successful member of a drug cartel. Now on the run, Teresa goes to Don Epifiano for help, where she realizes she is in danger for her valuable knowledge she has on Epifanio and his organization. So she flees to Texas and lands in the operation of Epifanio's wife, Camila, who is building her own drug cartel to rival her husband's business. Camila emigrated from Mexico and re-established herself in Texas. She seems to be building a competing cartel to her husband's and would love nothing more than to ruin Epifanio's duplicitous game. Camila's #2 is James, who worked for her as a drug-runner in her cartel in Texas. She trusts him to carry out her plans and assist her as the cartel grows. He takes an interest in Teresa and warns her exactly what it means to get involved in Camila's world, however harsh the realities may be. Perez-Reverte's novel also yielded one of the most popular super series of all time for USA Network's sister network, Telemundo.

Season 2 follows the journey of Teresa Mendoza and the sacrifices she must make not only to survive, but to make it to the top of the drug world. Where will she draw the line when her moral code and her destiny are at odds? In the season opener, "El Cuerpo de Cristo," Teresa brokers a deal with an eccentric smuggler, Camila struggles to rebuild her empire, and Epifanio takes on a new partner he may not be able to control.
