Plot Synopsis

After DNA evidence casts doubt on the prosecution's case, Daniel Holden is released from prison after serving 19 years on Georgia's Death Row. Daniel spent all of his adult life waiting to die, but now he can return to the outside world, even though there's doubt surrounding his innocence. Holden returns to his family and to his hometown, where many still believe he is guilty of raping and murdering a 16-year-old girl when he was only 18 years of age. Now he must learn how to live again -- or decide if he even wants to -- while others determine whether or not he will have that chance. Plus, the man who became a State Senator on the heels of his conviction is dead set on putting him back behind bars. This six-part series features six directors, each known for their groundbreaking independent films and television series: Keith Gordon; Billy Gierhart; Nicole Kassell; Jim McKay; Romeo Tirone; and Raymond McKinnon. RECTIFY, Sundance Channel's first wholly-owned scripted series, was showcased in a private screening on January 19, 2013 in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival, just three months before the series premiered on TV. RECTIFY returned for its 10-episode second season on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on SundanceTV. In Season 2, Daniel becomes an active participant in his life, making decisions and thinking about the future as he struggles to find meaning in a dangerous and unpredictable world. It will also delve into the lives changed by Daniel's return and the ripple effect his actions have on the people around him. The season finale premiered on August 7. SundanceTV debuted the third season of RECTIFY on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT. Season 3 picks up where the previous season left off, on the afternoon of Daniel's plea deal. Will the deal be accepted? Will Daniel be forced to leave town? And when the body of a missing person is discovered, law enforcement once again turns to him for answers. As Daniel's sister Amantha attempts to live her own life, she is given an opportunity at a local store that for the first time in a long time has nothing to do with her brother. Meanwhile, Tawney and Ted Jr. struggle to see if their marriage has a future. Janet and Ted Sr., also under pressure from Daniel's actions, will find that their marriage is put to the test as well. The fourth and final season of RECTIFY premiered on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on SundanceTV. At the end of Season 3, Daniel was banished from Paulie as part of a plea deal and set out to start his new life in Nashville. The eight-episode fourth season picks up a few months later and continues the series' documentation of the lives of Daniel, his family and the citizens of Paulie. The new season opens with Daniel navigating the complicated dynamics of group living at The New Canaan Project and learning to cope with his new normal.
