Plot Synopsis

Hosted by Dan J. Debenham, RELATIVE RACE is a genealogy-themed competition reality show that each season features four teams of two on their journey across America, as they complete challenges, meet unknown relatives traced through DNA and compete for a cash grand prize.

The inaugural season features these four married couples: Anthony and Brooke Brown from Las Vegas, NV; Patrick and Janice Wright from Anchorage, AK; Bradley and Heather Randall from Sun City, AZ; and Margo and Doug Engberg from Kirkland, WA. Armed with only paper maps, rental cars, burner flip phones and a $25 per diem, the couples receive instructions via text message to complete challenges that lead them to their long lost relatives. The last team to finish each day receives a strike, and after three strikes, teams are eliminated. RELATIVE RACE culminates in a dramatic finale, as all remaining couples race 4,500 miles from San Francisco to the finish in New York City for a chance at the $25,000 grand prize.

Season 2 features these couples: Joe & Madison Greer of Portland, OR; Justin & Brittany Stuart of Colorado Springs, CO; Leo and Rolexis Schinsing of New Orleans, LA; and Kyla & Duley Williams of Smyrna, TN. This season, the couples start in Miami and race their way to Boston. Along the way, they complete challenges related to their family history and stay with relatives they haven't previously met. The winning team takes home a $50,000 prize.

Season 7 of RELATIVE RACE premiered on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on BYUtv. The new season follows four teams on a 10-day cross-country journey as they complete challenges, discover unknown relatives, and compete for a $50,000 grand prize. #TeamBlue is Anthony and Joseph Pierce, #TeamRed is Devin and Elizabeth Dobson, #TeamBlack is Kacey and Sean Chapman, and #TeamGreen is Magen Gamble and Monika Bergman.

RELATIVE RACE returned for its eighth season on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on BYUtv, as four new family teams embark on the adventure of a lifetime: Steven and Susan (#TeamGreen); husband-and-wife team Jonathan & Kaleigh Tillotson (#TeamBlue); twin sisters Christine and Pam (#TeamBlack); and Amauni and Jarrell (#TeamRud).

Husband-and-wife Jose and Tiffani (#TeamRed), cousins-by-adoption Rachelle and Karim (#TeamBlue), sisters-in-law Angie and Kelly (#TeamGreen), and engaged couple Layton and Kyle (#TeamBlack) compete in RELATIVE RACE's ninth season, which debuted on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on BYUtv. Hosted again by Dan Debenham, these four teams compete in a 10-day cross-country road trip to find their long-lost relatives and win a $50,000 grand prize. Every day on the race is filled with twists, turns, and life-changing reunions. Only one team can win, but each team gains something far more valuable than money: the knowledge of who they are and the joy of finding their family.

Season 10 of RELATIVE RACE debuted on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on BYUtv. The new season follows four teams on a 10-day journey throughout the United States as they complete challenges, discover unknown relatives identified through DNA testing and compete for a $50,000 grand prize. For the first time in the show's history, two of the teams are comprised of individuals who have never met and are each searching for their own family members, leading to exciting and emotional discoveries throughout the season. Another first for the series is a daily fan-voted photo contest that decided which team had five minutes taken off their total time for the day. Teams include: Curtis & Shawn (#TeamBlue); Alex & Jaime (#TeamRed); Jamie & Jansen (#TeamBlack); and Hannah & Scott (#TeamGreen).

BYUtv premiered the eleventh season of RELATIVE RACE on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 9pm ET/6pm PT. In Season 11, four teams compete in a 10-day cross-country road trip to find their long-lost relatives and win a $50,000 grand prize. Thse four teams kick off the new season with a heavy equipment challenge. Later, Team Red's Thaddeus gets a huge surprise a the first door he knocks on, and Nolin from Team Green learns key information about his adoption. Teams for Season 11 include: Nolin and his adopted sister Leah (#TeamGreen); Thaddeus and his adoptive mother Karen (#TeamRed); Kentrelle and Jon (#TeamBlue); and Carolen and Tia (#TeamBlack).

Season 12 of RELATIVE RACE debuted on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on BYUtv. The new season kicks off with four new teams on the adventure of a lifetime from Savannah, Georgia. The four teams include: Andy Orrell and his wife Lizzy (#TeamGreen); married couple Mitchell and Trinesha (#TeamBlue); adopted siblings Callie and Patrick (#TeeamBlack); and friends Geselle and Taquida (#TeamRed).

RELATIVE RACE returned for its thirteenth season on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on BYUtv. Season 13 kicks off medieval-style in Nashville, TN, with new cars and new rules. The four teams are: Ashlee and her daughter Brennan (#TeamBlack); adoptive sisters Tiara and Jo (#TeamGreen); friends James and Justin (#TeamRed); and adoptive brothers Eric and Abe (#TeamBlue).
