Plot Synopsis
Hosted by WWE Superstar Chris Jericho, ROBOT COMBAT LEAGUE features 12 teams -- each consisting of a fighter, a robotics engineer and a unique robot -- that engage in bot battles to determine which team advances in, and ultimately wins, the competition. As teams battle each other in three-round fights, the combatants use high-tech exo-suits to translate their movements directly to their eight-foot tall robots, which were designed and created by robotics expert Mark Setrakian, a leader in the sport of robotic combat. robo-jockey Andrew Montanez, a pro MMA fighter known as The Squid, and robo-tech Ross Mead, a Computer Science PhD Research Fellow at USC, who are paired with A.X.E., a bot with a head shaped like an axe that can smash other robots in the face; robo-jockey Devonric Johnson, a street thug-turned-All-Star athlete, and robo-tech Russell Tait, a mechanical engineer and software deveoper, who are paired with Brimstone, a bot made of steel and leather, giving it a surface that's three times tougher than any other robot; robo-jockey Jeffrey Fellin, a National Guard helicopter pilot, and robo-tech Paulo Younse, a NASA robotics engineer, who are paired with Commander, a bot that has tank tread feet for extra traction on floors slick with the oil-blood of its opponents; robo-jockey Amber Shinsel, a young software engineer, and robo-tech Dave Shinsel, Amber's father and engineering manager at Intel, who are paired with Crash, which has a shock-mounted roll cage that can absorb high-impact attacks; robo-jockey Ciji Thornton, known in the gaming world as StarSlay3r, and robo-tech Fazlul 'Fuzz' Zubair, a systems engineer, who are paired with Drone Strike, which features stainless steel armor laminated with ballistic nylon in a digital camo pattern; robo-jockey Keisha Howard, owner of Sugar Gamers, and robo-tech Annika O'Brien, a robotics engineer, who are paired with Game Over, a bot that was built using steel "stitch"-welded together; robo-jockey John Peel, a personal trainer for celebrities, and robo-tech Heather Knight, owner of Marilyn Monrobot Labs, who are paired with Medieval, which is made from steel, with chain mail and metal crests; robo-jockey Amanda Lucas, daughter of George Lucas, and robo-tech Saura Naderi, UCSD Outreach Director and founder of myLab Program, who are paired with Robo Hammer, a bot made from welded steel and reclaimed parts; robo-jockey Diana Yang, a student in Industrial Design at UC Irvine, and robo-tech Chris Hardouin, a toy engineer at Mattel, who are paired with Scorpio, which has spikes are designed to deflect its enemies' blows; robo-jockey Ashley Mary Nunes, an ex-beauty queen turned horror and comic book junkie, and robo-tech Kyle Samuelson, a robotics mentor, who are paired with Steampunk, a bot with 19th-century inspirations and modern-day technology; robo-jockey Bayano Kamani, a two-time Olympian, and robo-tech Dr. George Kirkman, owner of Rolling Robots, who are paired with Steel Cyclone, a bot without an exposed head, making it more difficult for opponents to land attacks; and robo-jockey Heather Williams, the first female to participate in the X-Games FMX event, and robo-tech Brandon Lewis, a self-taught IT guru, who are paired with Thunder Skull, a bot with a titanium glass dome and tight body-fitting armor.
