Plot Synopsis

Five guys from Huntsville, Alabama -- a city nicknamed "Rocket City USA" because of its historical ties with NASA's space program through the Marshall Space Flight Center -- apply redneck ingenuity with advanced engineering and physics to creatively solve real-world problems. But these guys aren't just any rednecks; they're NASA scientists, expert machinists and PhDs who use redneck engineering solutions, like using homemade moonshine to fuel a rocket. The team includes: Travis Taylor, a rocket scientist and science fiction author; Greg Jones, a high-school buddy of Travis; Pete Erbach, an optical scientist and gun collector who is the team's ballistics expert; Charles Taylor, the father of Travis and a retired NASA machinist; and Michael Taylor, a machinist and part-time goat farmer. The team's ringleader, Travis Taylor, had previously served as a scientific consultant for Flight 33 Productions on other projects like WHEN ALIENS ATTACK. In Season 2, which premiered on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 9pm ET, the boys created: a man-capable rocket that can launch one mile into the sky, exploding charges that shoot out a parachute for the capsule and a test dummy; a steam catapult that launches a car forward, just like an aircraft carrier catapult-launches jet fighters, which they build for Jay Leno; a custom 20-foot-tall missile that boasts two engines and about 3,000 pounds of thrust fueled by a mixture of ammonium perchlorate and aluminum; backwoods bomb creations that they test on small outhouses; a survival pod capable of withstanding flood, fire and falling debris; and much more.
