Plot Synopsis

SHOCK DOCS is a series of two-hour special that focus on infamous horror cases, taking a fresh look at true and terrifying tales of paranormal encounters. Specials include:

"Devil's Road: The True Story of Ed and Lorraine Warren" (Monday, September 7, 2020 on Travel Channel): Over the course of their 50-year career, Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated thousands of hauntings. They documented some of the most famous cases ever recorded, including the Amityville Horror house, the real-life Rhode Island home behind THE CONJURING films and the Bridgeport Poltergeist. Ed, a demonologist, and Lorraine, a clairvoyant, were an unassuming couple who devoted their lives to battling demonic forces inhabiting families or homes. During the 1970s and 1980s, the Warrens made numerous appearances on television talking about their cases and spreading the word about the paranormal and preternatural worlds that exist all around us. Their life's mission: to prove the existence of good and evil; God and the devil. Along the way, they pioneered many techniques still used in the field today, including audio and visual recording devices, advanced electromagnetic devices and even produced their own television show. This two-hour special features interviews with their daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tony Spera, who share never-before-broadcast audio of Ed conducting interviews for the Bridgeport, Connecticut, poltergeist case, and rare video of the Warrens helping a young woman coming under demonic possession. Tony also has granted the production access to his catalog of footage from his television series, SEEKERS OF THE SUPERNATURAL. It includes many hours of Ed and Lorraine discussing their work with Tony.

"Amityville Horror House" (Monday, January 4, 2021 on discovery+, the day the streaming service launched): In 1977, "The Amityville Horror" book was published and caused a sensation. The subsequent 1979 film adaptation was a surprise box office hit. It was a film that changed everything. It terrified audiences and became a film and story that people continue to return to. Today, it is the quintessential American horror story based on true events. This is the story of the all-American family that moves into their dream house in the all-American town and experiences the most terrifying demonic haunting imaginable -- demon possession, demon attacks, a portal to hell. It was a situation so dire, even the church couldn't help them. Through archival footage and re-creations, the special, produced by 1895 Films, presents the harrowing true story of Robert Defeo, who murdered his entire family in the Amityville house, and the 28 terror-filled days the Lutz family lived in the house.

"The Exorcism of Roland Doe" (U.S. debut on Friday, February 5, 2021 on discovery+): This documentary uncovers a secret diary revealing shocking new details of the real exorcism case that inspired the iconic horror film. The victim of the real demonic possession was 13-year-old Roland Doe. More than 70 years ago, Doe became the unwilling participant in the most famous story of the devil inhabiting a person's soul.

"The Devil Made Me Do It" (Friday, June 11, 2021 on discovery+): Charged with a brutal murder, a Connecticut man claims his innocence, insisting "the devil made me do it." For the first time in U.S. history, the existence of demonic forces is used as a defense at trial. This doc examines the harrowing events leading up to the murder and the astonishing court case that followed. Based on the real-life inspiration for New Line Cinema's upcoming horror film The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, this terrifying documentary dives into the true story, with never-before-seen interviews with the family, renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, the defendant's lawyer and local police.

"The Curse of Lizzie Borden" (Friday, September 10, 2021 on discovery+): Paranormal investigator Dave Schrader assembles a team of paranormal experts to investigate whether a dark family curse led to the most infamous axe murders of all time. With new evidence that Lizzie Borden's ghost resides in the house where the murders took place, they conduct a seance to unearth the truth and finally close the portal of evil forever.

"Alien Abduction: Betty and Barney Hill" (Friday, February 18, 2022 on discovery+): In September 1961, Betty and Barney Hill were driving home to New Hampshire from a honeymoon trip when they made a shocking discovery and came face-to-face with a UFO. When they could not shake the feeling that something more happened, the Hills underwent regressive hypnosis. They recalled a terrifying ordeal of being abducted and experimented on by extraterrestrial beings aboard their UFOs. When their story was leaked to the press, Betty and Barney Hill received global attention as the world's first widely reported alien abductees. They became pop culture figures through a best-selling book, magazine excerpts and numerous media appearances. Decades later, in an intimate first-person interview, their niece, Kathleen Marden, shares her lifelong mission to expose the truth behind the Betty and Barney Hill alien abduction. She has revisited their story by searching through documents, witness testimony and physical evidence to find the truth.

"Alien Abduction: Travis Walton" (Friday, February 18, 2022 on discovery+): On November 5, 1975, a seven-person logging crew were driving home after a long workday in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Arizona, when they suddenly encountered a UFO. One of the men, 22-year-old Travis Walton, got out of the truck to investigate. His crewmates were horrified when they witnessed a bolt of blue light flash from the alien ship and knock Travis to the forest floor. Fearing Travis dead, the crewmates fled back to town and called the sheriff. When a search of the area turned up no sign of Travis, puzzling questions arose. Was Travis truly abducted by aliens? Did his coworkers murder Travis or have something to do with his disappearance and concoct the UFO story to cover their tracks? The six crewmen passed polygraph examinations, but rumors persisted. The Walton story became an international media sensation and pushed the residents of rural Snowflake, Arizona, to the brink. Years later, the film "Fire in the Sky" brought awareness of the story to a whole new group of UFO investigators. They uncovered physical evidence that may prove alien visitation of planet Earth.

"The Visitors" (Monday, September 5, 2022 at 9pm on Travel Channel): In December 1985, New York Times best-selling author Whitley Strieber was abducted in the middle of the night and subjected to horrific experiments by otherworldly beings. His terrifying ordeal sparked a decades-long quest to prove we are not alone. For the first time in 30 years, Whitley returns to the remote cabin where it happened to find out if he can still make contact with the Visitors.
